First of all let me start by saying the person who made the menu was probably some ignorant that needs to understand if the family thali is designed to serve 4 people then, 3 gulab jamun , 3 parathas will not be enough. Please ask any 2 year old if 3=4. Check the menu yourself, the waitress she asked me to order the family thali which was to serve 4 people . Then she bring quantity which can only feed 2 people barely , the rice was fine but (hear me out ) the dal was in one of the small bowl and that is suppose to be enough for 4 people and the quantity of the rice is for 4 people . There is no achar , ghee or papad with thali , then there is yogurt which is half of the smallest bowl. I even asked them to give us more curry and charge us , she tells me there is none . Then when i explain the quantities are not adding up to her she get frustrated and tells me “ she is not the owner , so she doesn’t care” . I was so disappointed in her attitude and poor customer service, that I didn’t bother saying anything else to her .The people who wrote good reviews about her are her friends. If you go to this place speak the truth about the quantities and their so called “ family Thalis “ that are a joke . Either they need to learn or they will be closed soon. Take the money I don’t care but give an experience that is ever lasting . I don’t wanna ever come back to you , thanks to your horrible waiter and your horrible...
Read moreI've probably eaten at around ~20 different Indian restaurants in Chicago, looking for something with great food, reasonably close to my apartment, and consistent. In my experience, a lot of places with high reviews are overrated. Thali Corner, however, is the real deal - it's absolutely fantastic. Please come here.
you know how you pass unassuming storefronts all the time in Chicago and think "what if they just had the best food EVER hiding in there"? that's Thali Corner. it's a place that is totally unassuming but has amazing, top quality food with with an emphasis on freshness and quality. There's a sign when you order that asks for your patience since they make all meals to order and it SHOWS!!!
I'll also say, I'm very obviously not from the neighborhood, but they were super nice and welcoming and a woman (maybe the chef? owner? both? I should have asked ;_;) came out to chat with me afterwards and she was also super nice!!!
Got the Thali, which is huge, had maybe the best chicken curry I've ever eaten, fantastic vegetarian curries, a bunch of drinks/curd to settle the stomach (honestly it worked? way less stomach irritation than I usually have after a giant meal), and a saffron chai. only criticism is i would have preferred it SLIGHTLY spicier, but it was still very flavorful and DELICIOUS. I'll be back for the dosa. go here!!! go here!!!...
Read moreI don't know what the flying reviews are about. Our meal here was disappointing! We went for lunch on a sat afternoon around 1 pm - this was on our list for a while now seeing the raving reviews. Our oder - rajnikanth thali - shared between 2 people . The food all tasted old, and some items were so close to spoilage . Breakdown below: Fish fry(3 PC of catfish) - v good Chapathi/ roti - 4 pcs - v good and filling ( thick ones) Dal - tasted funny Rasam - spoiled - left bad taste on tongue- see picture where I mixed it with rice and tried and had to push it aside. Bindi curry- was okay Potato curry- good Chicken curry- days old - v close to spoilage- I couldn't eat the meat - left it. Mutton - bad and days old.
If i had to guess ...This restaurant seems to freeze most of its food and heat individual portions to serve when the order comes 8n. I feel this strongly because they didn't give the mutton entree with our order. When we asked at the counter they said it was still being prepared...they brought it to our table a good 20 mins after and the curry was luke warm at its vest and tasted old. ..not like just cooked.
Beware of the crazy wait time after placing an order our order took 27 mins(excluding an item) to be served.
Their marketing team has done a good job of naming the dishes- there us a huge gap between the names and the cooks...
