I have lived in the neighborhood for 3 years and my mom has always wanted to try this place. I was surprised to see the atmosphere in such a worn and weathered looking condition but I kept an open mind because some of the very best places I have been to start off that way so I wasn’t worried.. but then there seemed to be nothing particularly appealing or authentic on the menu other than Al Pastor, and it didn’t specify what type of meat it was either so I passed on that. I will give them a half a star for having it on the menu, because I have a hard time finding it at other restaurants so that was good, but it wasn’t labeled so I couldn’t enjoy it comfortably. So my mom ordered two shrimp tacos, my son got the chicken strips basket and the best thing I could figure out on the menu was making a special request for a Chile relleno burrito.
The food came quick so I’ll give them a star for that, but the server forgot my sons ranch for his chicken and we had to ask twice and he was the one who needed to eat so there is no nice way to say it but the food was disgusting. They put shredded “melting cheese” on top of the shrimp tacos. The same cheese they put on top of the refried beans to make it cheesier, which is a blend of shredded American cheeses… cheese product. It’s not even real cheese. And it was disgusting. First off shredded cheese does not go on shrimp tacos second no where on the menu did it state that type of low quality cheese food product would be used on my dish. When I go to a sit down restaurant and pay 20$ for a burrito or something equal to that like shrimp tacos, the last thing I want on it is AMERICAN CHEESE, tasting like hamburger helper and Taco Bell mixed together. I didn’t have time to send the food back or argue about it because I had to leave for work and drive to Elk Grove so I took my burrito to go. So when I opened it up to eat it I was even more disgusted that there was no red sauce, no seasoning no nothing on that Chile burrito. It was just wrapped up DRY. So then I cut into it to see how much worse could it really get… they stuffed the entire Chile with the egg that they battered the Chile in so there was egg stuffed inside like extra egg, and then I really had to dig for it, I finally found the quarter of a string cheese stick they stuck in there. I will never forget this. American cheese on Mexican food. Just gross. Please label your menu a little better I would have left and saved myself 60$ I don’t work 2 jobs to waste money on gross food and I’m sure I’m not the only one who...
Read moreMy wife and I have passed this place numerous times, and each time we say we should try it. Well, we finally did. With all honesty, it was just ok. Service was fine, food was plenty, atmosphere was nice. I do, however, think that it could work on a few things as far as flavor. Start off, the salsa was, to me, more of a tomato sauce than anything. No real taste of jalapenos, onion, peppers, nothing like that. I could taste a heavy amount of grilled tomato and that was it. Appetizer was the jalapeno poppers, which, for a Mexican restaurant I expected something a little more hand made. They looked (and tasted) like what I would buy at grocery store. I figured it might be, so I wasn't disappointed with them, but I wasn't excited about them either. My wife got the Chile Verde burrito. Not much flavor in that one. Nothing we got had any sort of heat to it. The salsa was lacking, the poppers were lacking, the burritos were lacking. For a Mexican restaurant I would expect some sort of spicy, jalapeno flavor at some point. I got the Giant burrito. Again, no flavor. No spice. Nothing. There was plenty of food, that much is for sure. However, for the price of the Giant burrito, ($11 and change) it was actually worse than some taquerias I have been too, which also charge for half the price. We also got the half Margarita and again disappointment. We can make a better one at home. So I must say, that, although there was plenty of food, it was missing flavor. If we are invited with friends to go, we might say sure and enjoy the company, but I would not actually recommend this...
Read moreI dined at Lorenzo's late on a Friday evening with my son. We are both accustomed to the Mexican food in Southern California specifically in the San Diego area and are always a little guarded about going to restaurants that serve Mexican food elsewhere.
We found Lorenzo's a busy thriving restaurant on a Friday night. People seem to be enjoying the food and I took that as a good sign. I was happy to see the restaurant offered albondigas soup. However, I was a little disappointed because it was quite different than what I was accustomed to in my favorite Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles. That said it wasn't bad it just wasn't what I was expecting.
I also ordered a lovely salad that was completely delicious and I had a car need to taco that I would consider just so so. My son had the El pastor tacos and felt the same way, just adequate not anything specifically to get excited about.
My son said that best thing about his experience was the paloma cocktail that he enjoyed.
Overall the atmosphere was very laid back and casual and relaxing. The staff very friendly and efficient. I think when I come back I will try something...
