I want to prewarn any patients who have a medical card due to VSG this restaurant does not consistently support patrons ordering from the children's menu. Three recent visits with two bad experiences at BJs on I35.
This weekend I went to BJs restaurant and had no issues ordering and the waitress was quite pleasant.
Last night and tonight I returned to the BJs on I-35 because of the $13 meal deal for the person I'm eating with.
My second visit was not as pleasant. I was informed by the waitress curtly that adults could not order from the children's menu. I explained that I had a medical card and offered to show the waitress. She rudely stated it was not necessary and she would honor it. I ordered a grilled chicken with BBQ sauce on it because the grilled chicken I had ordered over the weekend was quite dry and little to no flavor. Upon receiving my order it was wrong, no BBQ was added. The person I was eating with received their meal (Chicken Parmigiana with noodles) and was upset that the meal had hardly any sauce. They had also asked for the dessert to be brought out with the meal and it was not received. Both myself and the person I was eating with talked to the waitress about the missing sauce/ or lack thereof... upon returning with our respective sauces they were in tiny containers. Which was fine for my chicken but not for my eating companions spaghetti and chicken. When asked about the dessert, the way she acted it was like it took great effort to provide any service to us. The server never returned after delivering the dessert, not even to ask/ refill our waters with the exception of me stopping her to determine if she was a manager and to get our check/ change.
Our third visit, while at the hostess stand. I observed the waitress from my second visit in the area we were about to sit at. I requested to sit in another area. My eating companion stated he did not want the waitress from the night before. I requested a kids menu before being seated, the hostess asked me who the children's menu was for and she proceeded to inform me BJs does not allow adults to order from the children's menu. I explained to her I had a medical card only to be told, "I wish I could get a medical card to order from the children's menu. " It was the way it was said, that bothered me.
After being seated, about 5 minutes later 4 other people were sat directly in front of us. Shortly after our waiter passed our table to attend to the table that had just been seated. My first thought was perhaps he wanted to tend to their table first because there were four people. But once he came to our table, I had a similar response to the waitress the night before regarding ordering from the children's menu, only to promptly be told he would make an exception this time. I again explained I had a medical card and was advised it was not needed. The food was brought out correctly during this visit. But after two nights of the treatment and tone by not one but three different people; I wanted to share my experience regarding this restaurants deamoner towards adults ordering from a children's menu, in the event you are trying to be discrete about your VSG, like me. I do understand adults ordering from the children's menu may not be the norm. I will discretely show my medical card as necessary when asked about ordering from the children's menu. I won't be talked to or felt looked down upon/ nor will I order an adult menu at full price only to be discarded because of my inability to eat an adult sized meal.
Note: I did speak to the night manager about my experience who appeared to be empathetic towards my experience. I just do not feel the night shift will correct these behaviors with these...
Read moreMy family and I have gone to all of the local BJ's locations many times, and it seems that the experience here will vary a LOT depending on the server. I wish I remembered the name of ours, but she was so rude we had to leave.
I visited 9/10 to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. The place was mostly empty, and we were seated promptly. The hosts were very nice, but when our server arrived things went south. I believe her name started with a K, and in addition to seeming generally unhappy/annoyed, she made things very difficult.
First she decided to card us after ordering drinks, which is perfectly fine, although I haven't been carded in a long time and drink often. We had actually been drinking a little earlier at Revl, where nobody carded us even when we offered. After accepting our IDs and leaving, she comes back to ask for mine again. I had forgotten that mine recently expired, and although I renewed it already, I only had the renewal in email. She left to "check with the manager" about email temporary IDs, and came back saying I couldn't use it. I tried to be understanding and said I'd get something non alcoholic, at which point she left before assisting or even allowing me to ask for a different drink. No apologies or attempts to improve the situation, and again, it was empty inside.
I told her we were here to celebrate a birthday (which she should've noticed on my girlfriend's ID), and she simply said okay before leaving - even just telling her "happy birthday" would've been something. When I pointed out that she never asked me what else I'd like to drink, she actually tried to argue that I told her I was still looking. Clearly there was some communication breakdown, but regardless of anything, I would never argue back at a customer if I were in her position.
It doesn't matter to me what the store's policies are regarding birthdays or carding every customer. What does matter is the complete lack of service, respect, or any attempt to improve the situation. In addition to making my girlfriend uncomfortable and making both of us feel awkward, she simply had no ability to act positively or empathize with the customer.
I printed my temp id and went to another BJ's that same night, and we had a wonderful time. They didn't even ask for the temporary paper at the other location, they just had common sense and good...
Read moreThis was a disappointing experience for us. As a note, my girlfriend and I both have a lot of restaurant and bar experience from our college years. We are very rarely critical of food service. We know how hard the job can be and how challenging members of the public can be. We tend to tip generously and give a lot of latitude. The waitress was personable and the beer/wine we ordered was good. It kind of went downhill from there. The calamari appetizer was okay but soggy. Definitely not crispy as described on the menu. There were three of us and we all ordered burgers. Two of us ordered medium rare and a third medium. They arrived timely but all were very much well done. The meat was tough and chewy, detracting from what was otherwise a good burger. That's what happens to meat when you overcook it. At no point during the meal or after did our waitress ask how things were or if the food was okay. We had a second round of drinks and waited awhile for the trays to be cleared. Nope. We ended up stacking them on the end of the table while we finished our drinks. I heard a neighboring table ask our waitress if she could clear their dishes so they could have some room. While we were finishing our drinks, I saw our waitress sitting in an empty booth doing something on her phone. She brought our check, we paid and she still never cleared the trays stacked on the end of the table. Her phone was apparently more important than taking care of her tables. Despite this, we still tipped well because we know how the job can be. Perhaps we shouldn't have but that's not how we are. Trips to the restroom were pretty bad. It looked like they hadn't been cleaned in awhile. There was a lot of sticky, dried urine on the floor under the urinals and it smelled like, well, dried urine. That was pretty much the last straw. This is ostensibly an upscale casual restaurant but it never seemed like anyone really cared about providing that experience or meeting that expectation. Definitely not our waitress but I don't think she knows any better. A failure on her trainer's part I would guess. Finally, I never saw a manager out on the floor. A lot of these problems could have been avoided by a manager's oversight...
