This was my first time eating here. My friends had been before. First of all, why do restaurants want to build these in finished restaurants without putting some time of sound absorbing materials on the walls and above in the rafters somewhere?! The greeter gal wanted to sit us in with all of the noise when I asked her to let us sit at one of the available booths on the east facing wall. She said it was not an open section even though there were 3 other booths on that side with folks eating. She took us and sat us on the left booths near the entrance(nice and quiet). The waitress we had was wonderful. Brought us tea and water without us having to ask and was very pleasant and helpful. My friends ordered the Salmon and Andouiie sausage dish. I ordered the Wedge Salad and the Taquitos. The wedge says it has Bleu Cheese dressing on it but it's green and did not taste like Bleu Cheese. The waitress said they add a green child to it as well as... Spinach... Why? It added no flavor enhancement and made the dressing green and watery. This is the perfect example of 'why do restaurants feel the need to change an old good traditional stand alone dish'do that with your signature dishes, not a salad that has been so popular for 100 years, since the 1920's. The Taquitos had great flavor but, like the waitress noted, the blue corn tortillas tend to be easy to break or tear so; why would you cover them in green sauce that is going to exacerbate the problem. Sadly too the inside was so incredibly wet that when picked up the tacos fell apart in a sloppy mess. The meat inside was so incredibly greasy with that red grease that there was no way of keeping it off my fingers nor from dripping on the table and my shirt. I may try one of the other locations to see if they might be better. The look and feel of the restaurant/bar is cool and the music playing is nice old country etc which lends to the overall vibe of the place. OH, and one last thought... The name is Blue Corn Harvest so why would your complimentary cornbread NOT be made with Blue Cornmeal??? Oh, sorry but one more thing that is soooooo very important!!! When we walked out there were 3 people behind the counter at the door(greeters)and two guys(employees)leaning over that counter all chit chatting, butts facing the door, yet not a single one of those employees said a single word to us as we walked past to go out the doors and we even made eye contact with some of them. This should NEVER be acceptable! Not a single one of my customers walks in nor out without being greeted both ways. They are who butters out bread and if they were not crossing that threshold none of us would be...
Read moreI am updating my review based on my recent experience. I came here during brunch. It was around noon and maybe 1/4 of the tables were full on a Saturday. Having previously recommended this restaurant to anyone who would listen, I was surprised to get my nachos with dark spots on every single slice of avocado.
This is the 2nd time in my entire life I have sent back food. I just asked if I could have something else because the dark spots. I said, "Hey, I never send food back and hate to do this, but the avocado has brown spots." The waitress said she would show the manager and get me something else.
My new order comes out and the guy who sat the food down said, "I hope this is more to your liking." I don't know if he intended to make it sound like I was being a picky princess, but there was no apology. If you are in the restaurant business, usually you try to make it right even if you don't agree with the customer. He definitely had an edge to his voice. I was taken aback.
Whatever. I didn't complain, but I did not feel welcome. I wanted to leave.
The breakfast birria was so meh. The eggs in top were unseasonably. The potatoes were also unseasoned. The birria consume had no onions, cilantro, or orange flavor. It tasted like plain beef broth. The birria "taco" was a weird tostata, so you couldn't really dip it like most birria tacos.
While waiting for 10 minutes for my daughter's drink refill, we saw a worker come in with groceries from HEB. So, I am guessing these aren't farm to market good suppliers in the food anymore.
I wish I had gotten a closeup of the nasty spots on the avocado. I didn't notice them until I ate one chip. If I had cut that avocado at home, I would have thrown it away. This wasn't brown from oxidation. This was legit rotting avocado with a bitter taste.
This place isn't what it used to be. I am...
Read moreUpdate: Loved my Blue Harvest soup and side of Mac and cheese!! The soup was delicious (and I don't like avocado, but I could eat all of it as long as I fit both avocado and other parts of the soup on each spoonful!). The Mac and cheese was soooo tasty. It was actually so unique-- I don't know if I've ever had Mac and cheese taste like that! Because our server forgot my Mac and cheese at first, they gave us a free dessert! We had the chocolate and peanut butter cake and it was yummy and had a nice presentation. I wish I could give half stars. The restaurant is still too expensive for me to regularly eat at. We came here because we didn't know Misaka Ramen across the street was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but really wanted to eat out today.
Original review: This place was very busy for a soft launch! They had a limited menu while still training the staff. I appreciate that because it's a sign they really want their chefs to have every meal perfect before they expand their repertoire. I was pleased to find a chicken fried chicken entree with locally sourced vegetables. I liked it!! I would have liked the chicken to be more substantial. Most of the chicken fried chicken was fried bits. The potatoes were delicious too. The queso had some heat, but was tasty. The chips were tasty. I think my 4/5 stars is just because the prices were so high that I can't justify adding this restaurant to our normal rotation. I'd take visitors here, though, for some southwestern food that seems more packed with nutrients than your...
