Okay so honestly this place is wonderful to walk into and just be in. The ambience is phenomenal. But if you're going to order food and not only deserts I would genuinely just suggest getting a salad or an omelette.
Will probs update this review once I go home and try the macarons we got.
Here's a tl:Dr in case you don't want to read my extensive long ramble of a review:

For the long version:
We ordered a Greek omelette, Mediterranean salad, blackened tofu sandwich, smokey avocado toast. I also got a hazelnut mocha (or something I forgot the name) as a drink, hot.
Firstly the omelette was kinda mid. It was a little too salty and it just wasn't nice to eat? I'm not sure why because honestly everything is seasoned really well which I appreciated but somehow it just didn't taste appealing or something I would eat a whole plate of. I'm picky tho so whatever. The white sauce on top was great though. It was also on the Mediterranean salad.
The salad was wonderful honestly. Like it's not the best salad I've ever tasted but it was the best thing on that table. This place's meals are genuinely so... Overwhelming. It was seasoned well and fresh and just pleasant. It had a small version so yay!
When you order something called "Smokey avocado toast" you would expect to taste avocado with a smokey taste, spicy refreshing and earthy at once with maybe some crisp onions and soft tofu crumbled on top for texture. Yeah I saw the ingredients but you kind of assume that the avocado toast is gonna be an avocado* toast. But genuinely everything that's good about an avocado toast was not there at all 😭😭😭
The layer of tofu on it was overwhelmingly filling and it was really HUGE. It was massive!! I have a small stomach and I get flavor fatigue easily which is a factor but I couldn't take more than 5 bites without getting nauseous simply bc of everything on it. The big ol slab of tofu, the melted thick cheese, and the oily sauteed onions just did not work with the layer of avocado on the bottom that didn't even taste good. Like as much as I love the creativity, sometimes you just gotta be CLASSIC with these things. I like my avocado toasts refreshing. It also didn't taste smokey just kinda spicy (which was expected but spicy avocado toasts are only good when there's a lemony sour refreshing flavor with it which, again, wasn't there.)
The blackened tofu sandwich had the same problem except the tofu being there is in the title and therefore has the right to belong. It was kind of annoying that it tasted 85% like the "avocado toast" except with no avocado and with a spicy sauce 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Now that hazelnut coffee was creamy and delicious. I'm lactose intolerant but got the whipped cream anyways. I'm actually not even sure if it was plant based whipped (cream if that exists) bc I didn't bother to ask!! Tasted phenomenal... Oh my god. The whipped cream was thick and it tasted like QUALITY. mmmm....
Now my qualm is that the portion sizes are so huge. For a place with pastries it's so much better if you can taste and sample many deserts without no1 breaking the bank and no2 getting full bc everything is far too large for you to enjoy the variety of things they have. A small sandwich and some pastries sounds way better than a heavy, filling sandwich and a massive croissant you can't even get to. Come here with your family because man even the pastries are huge. The peanut butter cup is more like a peanut butter SLAB 😭😭 one day I'll find a pastry shop with portion sizes so that I can try all the pastries I'd like. The macarons exemplify that wonderfully, though. The prices do match the serving sizes or something.
It's just a matter of personal preference at the...
Read moreI was very excited about taking my friends here to share a girls day for one of their birthdays. Our experience yesterday wasn’t not pleasant. We walked in the place which is super cute! Gold star there! As we searched for an area to seat five people there was only a seat area for four. No problem! There was a corner area at the far right near the Christmas tree that was missing a chair once a chair was placed it would allow us to seat five. Keep that in mind! Now as we try to get seating together we asked one of the ladies behind the counter to assist us so we can move the chair. She hesitated at first and stated that Ir will be a fire violation to place the chair by the tree which is far away from the door Strike 1. That’s a lie! The chair was moved away from that area and we just wanted an open chair placed back there. That tells me that you didn’t want all five of us there. I could tell they were overwhelmed because it was super busy.
Now- Strike 2. The service is horrible! I’m a firm believer, if you don’t like your job, change it. There were two girls and guy working the front. If you have customers coming into your place if business to support you, greet them! They are paying your bills. Not only that, all the customers didn’t even know where the line started which was super confusing. One of the ladies, yells out! This is not the line, everyone needs to move to the side. First off! As customers that never been there, that any customer. We don’t know that. Not our fault! I’m not trying to complain or lash out against this place. Once again super cute place and I want to support small businesses.
Strike 3. We ordered the Gingerbread latte. When I tell you about ten dollars for warm super warm like one ice cube dropped in it warm. No! I drink my coffee hot. The guy was super sweet and fixed it right away! So that was a major plus :)
Strike 4. This really impacted me and my friends very hard. Which I will be following up with the owner about. So there was a lady in a motor wheelchair. I saw at the end of the restaurant there is a wheelchair assessable table. So I was happy about that. Well the lady placed her chair to the side away from everyone and trust as small as the place is, there was accessibility by this lady for other customers. As I’m getting my reheated coffee and my friend is getting water, tell me why one of the workers, walks over and tells her she needs to move her wheelchair it’s a fire hazard and health violation. When I tell you that my blood was boiling. Like how dare you make this lady move a chair that is clearly in the area that’s assessable for her. The way she said it was so wrong! The lady moved the chair to where I feel would have been more of a fire hazard than anything. I feel it was the demeanor of the workers that really hit hard for me when it comes to a persons, disability, greeting customers and their actions...
Read moreI want to give it a 3.5, but cant really give it a 4. This place was definitely set up to take cute instagram pictures as a primary focus, to the detriment of the product itself.
First things first, this place appears to be a vegetarian place. There is no meat of any type on the menu. They do use eggs and cheese and butter tho. Just be aware that you aren't going to get a Denver omlette or a ham and cheese croissant.
The atmosphere is a solid 4, but you can tell 90% of the effort went into the atmosphere instead of the product, and even the atmosphere misses a little bit. For a place called unicorniverse they sure missed almost every opportunity to include unicorn iconography(drinks named after beauty and the beast for some reason, not one unicorn in the place except a small figure on the counter). But, they did succeed in making a pretty cute tea party vibe. Maybe their capitol mostly went into making custom branded china and they plan to update some of the other stuff as they become profitable to get some unicorns in the mix. How bout some unicorn oil paintings in some of those frames?
Now the food...this is my main hangup. It's not bad, it's just not quite there. I had a pesto omelet. While the flavors were quite good, the balance of filling to egg was quite off, as in too much filling. When the filling is primarily pungent cheese and oil that can get a little gross. They probably need to dial back the filling about 30-50%, and it wouldnt hurt to add some type of solid texture item into the filling to help balance the pungent goeyness. I give that omlette a 3/5 cuz the flavors were good otherwise.
That wasn't really the biggest issue w the food tho. My wife had some tofu on french bread thing. The tofu and toppings were excellent...the bread was very very tough, and hard to even bite into, let alone tear or attempt to cut with a knife. We also got a couple croissants. Why are they tough and chewy, instead of soft and flakey? A business billing itself as a bakery should really make much better baked goods. 1/5 for the baked goods.
Speaking of the knife...they could use silverware with a little easier to index handles. The knife kept rolling in my hand as I attempted to hack through the bread and croissant. Maybe they'd be fine if the breads were not so hard and chewy.
We may give it another chance in a few months as it settles in and hopefully sorts out the problems with its product. This place could be a fairly successful franchise business if they get their vision and food dialed in because its a cute idea and it really is very instagramable, and little kids would live the tea party atmosphere. If it doesn't improve its product however, I predict the hype will die off within a year and it will just be a quirky strip mall bakery that lasts less than 5 years. I wish them luck.
The coffee...
