JARED REVIEWS: Kaizen Sushi Bar & Asian Kitchen 6501 Dalrock Rd #116, Rowlett, TX 75089
Sitting in the shopping center at the North West corner of Dalrock and 66 in Rowlett, is Kaizen. Technically, Kaizen is in Dallas County, which wont mean much to many, but I try to keep my focus on business and efforts in my home of Rockwall County, but for these guys I think an exception is warranted. After all, they are right on the line.
Kaizen opened at the end of 2019 in October, so they are a new place in town, only open 11 months as of the time of this review. I noticed they had very good reviews on Google, Yelp and Facebook so I made a lunch stop by recently to see the spot.
Kaizen is in a strip center, and is a small eatery. On my 2pm lunch visit, only one other table was sat. The decorations are light, the place is simple, clean and somewhat quiet.
This part of the review will likely become dated in the future, but as of 9/3/20 the restaurant is following all Dallas County COVID-19 mandates, requiring masks to enter, and have closed 50% of their table. Giant hand made signs outside still advertise CARRY OUT AVAILABLE from earlier, harder months of the pandemic.
The lunch menu immediately struck me as affordable. The most expensive dish was $10.95 and most of them were $6.95 to $8.95. Sometimes with sushi this a bad omen they will use cheaper quality fish or materials.
But I was wrong in that assumption.
Service was quick, tidy and accurate. The rolls i sampled (Up Town Roll & Philadelphia Roll) were superb. The key to good sushi is FRESHNESS and you could really taste the crisp flavors and mellow sweetness of the meats in the tender rice. Nothing was overwhelming, nothing was sour or off. It was just right.
One of the lunch samples was a sashimi sampler, which had one piece of raw fish over rice in 4 varieties. A younger version of me would gag at the thought of eating raw fish, but again, when prepared by a professional the experience is actually amazing.
I am glad I grew up.
The entire lunch was a great value, quickly served, and done so in a clean, trendy vibe simple neighborhood diner.
This spot does not has the ambiance as Rockwall's Basil Cafe, and its menu is not as deep, but in regards to sushi quality and freshness, they are at least equal. Top tier. Maybe even better, since Kaizen is open for dine in service, and Basil Cafe is not, as of the time of this post.
Worth the visit for any Japanese food fan. âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ Kaizen 6501 Dalrock Rd #116,...
Read moreBeen there 3 times already and can't wait to go again. What a wonderful GEM of a restaurant! We've tried sushi, Chinese, Vietnamese and the more we try, the more we are impressed with the food quality and taste. Best Vietnamese Egg Rolls outside of Vietnam! Best salmon fillet dish! Best beef Pho! Everyone must try their Oishii roll and their fresh Scallop Nigiri is spectacular! Big kudos to Emma! You are a superstar! Make us always feel at home!
Update 1/6/20: After being there at least 4 more times I can now confirm my earlier review - this is a true 5-star restaurant where they pay great attention to their food and their customers. Everyone is super friendly, treat you like a family, no pretense, no attitude, just genuine desire to serve the best food possible. You owe yourself a big favor of going and checking this place out!
Update 5/24/21: Countless visits, countless dining and takeouts and all I have to say is PLEASE STAY IN BUSINESS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! LOL Anyone in Rowlett or Rockwall who hasn't visited this gem yet: you don't know what you're missing...yes they can get busy on holidays or Fri/Sat nights and food may take a bit longer than usual to appear on your table, but this can happen in ANY restaurant. What separates Kaizen apart from everyone else is the genuine care by the management to make sure you do not leave unsatisfied and their food is second to none. The quality of their sushi is heads and shoulders above everyone else in this area and if you want to try to find someone that can even approach their level you'd have to go to Dallas or maybe somewhere in Plano/Frisco and you will definitely pay more in addition to the much...
Read moreI never expect much from sushi here in Texas. Something about landlocked suburbia just never felt right for sushi vibes. But this place really changed my mind. They had some truly unique rolls and the traditional favorites were great as well. They willingly made some accomodations for my little foodies. Who love sushi but spicy mayo is still too much for themđ we got way too much for just the three of us but everything was delicious. We started with crab Rangoon's. Which actually had crab in it. So plus there. And the gyoza which were fantasticly meaty and the sauce was a bit different than the standard gyoza sauce and was very tasty. Then had a California roll and roman rolls for my kiddos. They loved. And especially appreciated the bonito flakes. I got myself the poke roll. And that was great the seranos were a great addition since so often jalapenos no longer have any heat so that extra bit of spice was much appreciated. It was a great experience we loved the art and my kids loved finding Luffy hidden amongst the pictures. the best part is, their happy hour specials include some of their specialty rolls which is rare to find. We found OUR sushi spot out here and will be...
