Johnny's Speakeasy — Restaurant in Royal Oak

We had reservations at 7 pm. Like other ppl we were excited to use the password and have this unique experience. Unfortunately this wasn't it.....🥴. My husband used to be a waiter so we are empathetic to servers, but this was just bad all the way around. It was our friend’s wedding anniversary so we were ready to have a good time. First they sat us at a Couch with an ottoman and coffee table🤦🏽‍♀️....no words. We ordered drinks they took about 25 min to come out, our server never checked on us during that time. I have to say our drinks were really good. About 10 - 15 min after dropping off drinks she took our appetizer and dinner order. The appetizers weren't bad, but server spilled water and some got on my husband's hat, maybe because the table was so low😂. Anyway, our food finally came out cold and seasonless. I order the Lobster "Pap" and Cheese. I was expecting cheesy with a great lobster/seafood flavor. Nope. Just bland. My friend and I sent ours back the be heated. Mine came back warm but they only heated my friends lamb chops not the rest of meal, her sides were still cold. My husband got a steak medium, it was overcooked, he was so hungry he just ate it🙃. He also ordered a drink to have with dinner that never came. My friend sent her meal back for a 2nd time so they comped it for her. We got a free crème brûlée because we were there for a celebration. Went on a Sunday. Very personal, high quality experience. Johnny, the chef, made a point to interact with our party multiple times and was very personable. Live entertainment by Gwen & Charles was quite enjoyable; you could tell they really loved what they were doing, and they, too, set aside the time to engage with our party directly and set a very fun, yet relaxed and comfortable mood. The drinks were of a quality not often found, and the food was absolutely phenomenal! I had the beef cheek ravioli, which was surprisingly flavorful, and the chocolate soufflé which was perfectly done. Tried a bite of the stuffed salmon from a friend's plate, which was also quite tasty. There was also a special sangria paired with a duck-based appetizer that really rocked my palette. Several drinks (including a12-year McAllen) and a coffee with a bill that, after a 30% tip (our server, Jordan, was underbearing, yet extremely attentive - possibly the best server I've ever had), was only just over $100. On top of all that the "speakeasy" atmosphere seemed pretty authentic - and private -, with appropriately dim lighting and the faint creek of the floorboards from Mr. B's above. I was really excited to bring my friend who was visiting from out of town to Johnny's because my first experience was amazing and I kept talking it up to her. Then everything went south from there. The service and food was just not on par that night. Stark difference from my first visit there. First the waitress moved us because out of the entirely empty place, the host apparently put us at a table where there is a ceiling leak. Ok, I get it, things happen but we came specifically to get dinner and drinks which I mentioned to the waitress while asking her what she recommended only to have her bring my drinks and tell me the kitchen was closed (it wasn't even 9:30 pm). She saw how upset I was about this especially because she didn't give me a heads up about it but she said she'd get the cook to stay a little for us. I'm pretty sure whoever cooked, had never cooked before. My filet tasted like hamburger meat, my friends lobster mac was just gross and the souffle wasn't cooked all the way. The drinks were very good though and the waitress kept apologizing so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt in terms of everything that went wrong that night.
