Mammy Frog's Diner — Restaurant in Russell Springs

My friend and I saw this restaurant online, and I wanted to go and give it a shot. I was slightly disappointed after driving almost an hour, one way to get to the front door only to read a sign that stated that they did not accept any form of credit or debit cards, so back in the car we go, across the street to pull cash out of a cash machine.

Fully stocked up on cash, which I never carry on me normally, we get back to the restaurant.

The inside of the restaurant was great. I loved the old school feel of the place and was looking forward to a good dining experience.

We get to our seat, and our server asked what we would like to drink. I asked if they had sweet tea. The answer was no. As someone who does not normally drink soda, I thought about asking for water but ended up settling for a soda.

Now, to the reason we are here. I want the roast beef Manhattan. I was really looking forward to it. This is one of the major reasons why I am here. I was told that they were sorry, but that they were out.

This day was just not going my way at all. I ended up with a burger, and I do have to say that the burger was very good, and I loved the cook on their fries.

Overall, I was slightly disappointed with the experience and hope that if I go back in the future that the odds will be more...

Holy smokes! In the past 10 years..... not a single diner I've found makes tater tots or waffle fries the way I like. I want crispy and I want seasoned! This little, unobtrusive diner on the side of the highway has been hiding this entire time because i didn't even have to ASK for them that way. I'm beyond ecstatic to have found this gem! Friendly service and clean... yes and yes.... but the food.....15/10 easily! I got the chuckwagon sandwich and criss cuts (waffles fries)... to say I'm pleased is such an understatement. My only regret... eating so much I can't try their ice cream. Buuuut.... that just means a follow-up visit, which is worth my one-hour, one-way drive (and y'all know how I am about these gas prices, so that's saying something!) A couple things I wish I would’ve seen in the reviews:

1. They’re cash or check only. This wouldn’t be too big of a deal if you’re expecting it - but doing a call in order for the first time we had no idea. It’d be nice if they offered that as a reminder when taking an order.
2. the majority, if not all, of their food is precooked and frozen.. and they didn’t salt anything (including fries). It is essentially cafeteria food.
3. their beef bbq is a sloppy joe - which is fine if that’s what you’re expecting. But, we’ve never been to a restaurant that has called a sloppy joe beef bbq so it was a little frustrating.

Overall, for food they literally just heat up it was edible. But based on previous reviews we we’re definitely given the impression it was awesome diner food - not...
