This was my first time and probably will be my only time going to this place. I am not from Sacramento, but if I do return to the area, I will not choose this location. I came in for breakfast and ordered at the register, which was a bit odd to me, but not unheard of before. That being the case, the cash register/order taker/Ipad screen asked how much tip I would like to leave (with options 15%, 18%, 20%). I chose 15% but thought it odd since nothing was served to me yet. How do you request tip before any order has been served? My order was the "Full Deal" ($12.25) which included 2 eggs, breakfast potatoes, toast, and breakfast sausauge. Since I wanted pancakes I also ordered "Poppy's Buttermilk Pancakes." It comes with 3 for the prices of $9.25. $3+/pancake is pretty up there, but I don't really second guess because maybe it's a specialty pancake batter and the online ratings of this location is pretty good. I asked my eggs to be cooked scrambled but a little runny (soft). My order came out with my eggs cooked scrambled (hard) and my pancakes were nothing special. I don't think it justifies the $3/pancake price. Most places I've been to serve water as a courtesy, but I did not receive such and no suggestion/mention was made that I would need to purchase any drinks at all. I spent about 20 minutes total (including order and waiting for food) at this location and walked out with regret that I didn't go elsewhere. The saving grace for this location is that the attendant at the register...
Read moreToday visited Steamers in Old Sacramento, hoping for a pleasant experience, but instead, left feeling singled out and dismissed. My friend and I, two Black women, were seated and waiting for our order to be placed by someone already in line inside when an employee approached us, asking us to vacate our seats because the restaurant was busy. Meanwhile, two men sitting beside us, also without orders, were left undisturbed.
These men, perplexed by the situation, even offered to help us address the issue, pointing out the inconsistency. They expressed confusion as to why we were being asked to move when they hadn’t ordered yet and had no intentions on doing so until a third party member arrived, on the other hand, our order was in progress. It was clear the employee, who adjusted her apron as she approached, came directly to us and didn’t consider others doing the thing she accused us of nearby.
Unfortunately, we were the only two Black customers there (our friend ordering inside was white), which made the experience feel targeted. I left feeling unwelcome and will not be returning to Steamers. The situation felt not only unfair but entirely unnecessary, especially since our order was...
Read moreArrived a few minutes after they opened and ordered two lattes and an almond croissant for $20. We asked to sit outside and they assigned us a table that was filthy and covered in crumbs from the day before. Seeing as we were the only ones there, We took the liberty to sit at another table. Within 15 seconds the staff came out and asked us to go sit at our assigned table because the table we sat at was for 4 people. There were no other people anywhere inside or out at 8am on a weekday, yet they refused to let us sit there even though we explained why we preferred to sit at the only clean table outside. We took our coffee and croissant to go. While the lattes were good, the croissant was the worst I’ve ever had. I absolutely LOVE a good croissant and buy one everywhere I travel to, but it was so stale that you couldn’t even bite into it or tear it apart. We gave it to a homeless person who we hope enjoyed it. I’m not one to write bad reviews but I feel it’s important to let others know when the customer service is poor and more importantly, when what they serve is not fresh. What...
