I rarely write negative reviews. My wife and I came here for dinner on a Friday night to celebrate an anniversary. It was our first time here. We made a reservation and arrived on time. We were greeted by a very pleasant young woman who told us there was only 1 server so there might be a delay in being seated. My wife and I did not mind waiting, and we took time to admire the interesting construction of the wooden ship. We were seated outside on the 2cd deck. All was fine until this point. The view was great, the cool evening air felt wonderful, and we saw some seals resting nearby.
Then came the wait.
It took about 20 minutes to receive water and place our order. Our waiter did not come back until the 45 minute mark to refill my drink and give us bread. He did not return until about the 1 hour mark with our appetizers. Then he did not return again until about the 1 1/2 hour mark, at which time he only came to ask us if we received everything we ordered, and we said no, we did not get our entrees. He walked away without saying anything or asking us if we needed refills or anything else.
As we waited, we observed customers with no food or no water. A couple seated next to us were drinking wine, but had no food. After over an hour, a woman bartender went to this couple and apologized for the long wait. The bartender blamed the wait on only having 1 server and also stated that California has a hiring shortage. She told the couple that they are not alone in this long wait, and to enjoy the view, and please wait patiently. One of the couple came to us and said they were visiting from out of the country and were very disappointed in this dining experience. She said that they were served a full bottle of wine, which they drank, but had no food to go with it. She also said they were offered another bottle of wine, but the woman responded by saying she wanted food before she drank more wine.
We were getting cold outside and we wanted to leave. We went to the same bartender woman and let her know that we wanted to pay for what we ordered, and skip the entree. My wife voiced her reasons this request. The bartender could be heard complaining to others surrounding the bar about my wife, stating my wife was "yelling at her", which my wife was not. This offended my wife. I called for the manager. The manager came and I began telling him our situation and our request to pay for what we received and leave. My wife told the manager about the comment the bartender made at the bar. Then a random person, who was seated near us, walked up to me and the manager and interrupted me to shake the manager's hand and tell him what great service he had been receiving. This made me very upset. I told this random person he was very rude. The random man responded by showing us his Marine tattoo. My wife informed him that she was born into the Navy and thanked him for his service. I, on the other hand, told the random person to mind his own business and called him an a*e, and I walked out, informing the manager I would be writing a review on Google.
The manager pleaded with me to stay and said he wanted to make things right. I refused. I wanted to leave that establishment. The manager was insistent, but I repeatedly refused and I left. The manager and my wife talked some more, at which time he told her he would reverse the charges for the drinks and appetizers. While this was happening, the same bartender, who we told we never received our entrees, brought us a bill for the full meal.
Things would have gone better if the waiter checked on us periodically and explained the holdups. But to be left there was not the best way to handle the situation the establishment was having. My wife and I did our best to handled the situation. What turned this situation ugly is the bartender making a scene regarding my wife, and a random person who had no business interfering. The situation quickly became...
Read moreI try to avoid leaving 1 star reviews due to poor service because I understand that a server could be having a bad night. However, I dined at this restaurant twice during my stay on the Delta King (once for dinner and once for breakfast) and both experiences were negative. I did try contacting the manager before leaving this review whom’s email address I got from reading review responses. After over a week with no response I proceeded leaving this review. The food was fantastic and it was a very generous breakfast that comes with a hotel stay. We were pleasantly surprised with that.
The server for dinner was very nice but not attentive at all. I sat with an empty water glass most of our stay and it was only when she checked in halfway through the meal and I asked for her to refill my water that she did. I also ordered a martini before our appetizer arrived and by the time we had finished our appetizer AND our dinner she came over to apologize for the wait on the martini and I told her we’d finished our food and we ready for the check- please cancel the martini. Definitely not a stellar experience.
Then breakfast the next morning was much worse. The server made us feel as though she was irritated to be serving us. She had blonde hair and one or two facial piercings. She was extremely rude and inattentive. She didn’t greet us or welcome us in. We walked in and she said “Two?” and then walked us to a table and walked away. She then came back in a few minutes to get our drink order. She didn’t refill our waters or coffees once but fortunately the bartender was making rounds and checking in on people. He was friendly and would have made our experience much more enjoyable. The kicker is that at the end of the meal we were just sitting with our dirty plates waiting for her to come over. She never did. I had to wave her over. She literally rolled her eyes when she saw me. I asked if I owed anything for the orange juice I had ordered. She said breakfast is free but you still have to pay gratuity. Which made me feel as though she thought we were not intending to tip… We always tip. When service is at least decent we tip 20%+. I only had a $20 bill so I asked her if she could make change for me. She made an aggravated expression and said “I’ll try” - very passive aggressive. I should have said never mind, you’re clearly inconvenienced by us choosing to dine here, we’ll not bother you to make change so we can tip you. When she brought the change all she said was “I couldn’t give you any ones”. She didn’t say “Thanks for coming in” or “Have a nice day”. I get that people have a bad day but that was just ridiculous.
I consider myself a reasonable person who came from a humble background. I was once a hospitality worker. I don’t have ridiculous standards of service and am very easy to please. If I’m upset with a dining experience, it means that it...

1/5 stars, they only get one star from be because the waiter was wonderful given how stressed out he was.
Our reservations were at 7:00 PM. I checked in with the hostess at 6:40 or so, then sat at the bar to wait for our table. The poor bartender was out of glasses, behind on orders and all around stressed out. He did his best and was wonderful though and a very nice person.
Now the real reason why our experience was HORRIBLE. We were seated after 7:00 PM. My first indication things were not going to go well were how many tables saw still had no food from the time I walked in through the door to the time we actually got seated. Our waitress was completely rude. Came up to us out of nowhere, did not introduce herself didn’t ask if we wanted anything to drink besides waters, etc. All she said was “What can I get you to order?”. At first I wasn’t sure if she was asking if we wanted an appetizer or starter for the table or if we just wanted the entree. Again, there was no other dialogue than her initial question. But coincidentally, after she left our table of two, she went to ALL her other tables and had an extremely different demeanor. We were never checked up on again, I had to ask for a basket of bread, and we never saw her for the rest of the night.
An hour and a half later, we got up and left after seeing all the other tables waiting 50+ min for their dishes to come out. Three other tables left as well. If the kitchen was running behind (which it was, I went up after 45 minutes and asked the hostess if she knew about any possible delays with dinner. She confirmed there was), I would have been more understanding had we had a waiter that could communicate with us and made up for it with customer service.
The part that really got me? While she was walking past our table and trying to avoid eye contact with us, I asked her if the delay (already and hour later, 8:00 PM by now) would be any longer and explained we had tickets to see a comedy show that we’re not refundable. Her response: “oh it’ll be out soon. And you’ll be out of here by 8:30, depending on how fast you eat.”
Overall: horrible customer service, horrible experience, the bread was decently good (all 5 pieces we got for an hour and fifteen minutes at that table)
Oh and she still had the audacity to charge my boyfriend for his single beer that cost $8 after all of this. The least they could have done was comp the drinks.
