My wife and I recently attended a business conference in Sacramento. Unfortunately, we were not able to stay at the host hotel for all four nights that we were there. So we ended up reserving a room for just one night at the Vagabond Inn.
On the good side of things, the staff was fairly friendly, they offer a complimentary breakfast each morning, free Wi-Fi access, and, surprisingly, they offer a free shuttle service to and from the airport and other local nearby locations.
In fact, right after we checked in, the shuttle service took us over to a local restaurant where we had a nice meal.
On the darker side of things, when we first entered our room we were accosted by a foul, musty smell that irritated our senses. My wife was actually overwhelmed by it, and it made her nauseous.
Upon entering the room there were several stains on the carpet, and the linens on the bed looked old and in disrepair. My wife instantly wanted to stay at another hotel, but due to time constraints, we simply stayed there for the night.
While I was in my conference the next day, my wife checked out and simply requested shuttle service to our other hotel, which was less than one-quarter of a mile away.
Sadly, they refused my wife's request, saying that she had just checked out and they could not provide her that service. Any quality hotel should have gladly accommodated my wife's request with all of our luggage that she needed to transport!
Instead, she was forced to take a taxi cab that overcharged her for the meager drive.
I highly recommend that you stay at another hotel that will be glad to help its paying patrons to enjoy their stay.
I do give them credit, however, for having found a lost item in our room and returning it to the front desk staff. That allowed my friend and colleague to grab my lost item and send it back to me.
Overall, I probably would not stay here again due to its uncleanliness and lack of service. It's worth it to pay a little extra and stay at a...
Read moreSolid 3 star hotel and a good value. Rooms were clean and beds comfortable. It's an older hotel that has been remodeled. That means it has old bones and a few legacy bits. Each room has a large window. Great for light, not so great for noise. If you're facing the street, you'll get road noise, the pool, kids playing. None of this bothered me, but it might be an issue if you're in the 'get off my lawn' crowd. There was a Thermador coil heater in the bathroom. You don't see those anymore and is a throwback to the hotel's old bones. It was quirky, and I rather like a little heat when getting out of the shower.
The pool is 8ft deep which you don't see in New hotels. My kids loved the pool and hot tub.
Breakfast was better than most at this price range. Nice spread of proteins, carbs and a little fruit. The food was clearly cooked in the restaurant which I genuinely appreciate. It's all too common these days for a 'hot breakfast' to be perfunctory microwaved spread. I liked the eggs and country potatoes.
I didn't interact with the staff much, but when I did, everyone was friendly.
Reviewers have mentioned safety and the homeless quite a bit. There are homeless nearby. It's California and unfortunately they are a piece of the social fabric. That being said, they were mostly pushed out of the area and none within sight of the property. I walked through Old Town and DOCO with my two littles at night and didn't feel unsafe.
All in all, it's a good value for what it is offering. I would absolutely...
Read moreLiterally across the street from Amtrak/train station, a few blocks from Old Sacramento and 0.07 miles aka hop, skip and a jump to Golden 1 Center for a concert or Kings game with a comfy bed, complimentary breakfast the room and bathroom were a bit outdated but hey I came to hang out have some FUN around town, it's all about location, location, location - RIGHT??! Keep in mind the rates fluctuate based on when a concert or Kings game is going on, so be prepared for rates to go up but if you are looking for somewhere to stay directly across from Amtrak/train station that is in close proximity to great bars, restaurants and entertainment - you have found it. ||||Added bonus complimentary breakfast in the morning to get you started for the day or on your way back home. Staff was friendly, getting us checked in with ease, property was convenient and bed was super comfy. We did have to change rooms due to the shower wouldn't drain and the next one was not that much better but for a quick two night stay we made it work and enjoyed our time in Sacramento.||||Even though you are close to the freeway we couldn't hear the noise of the road/cars nor any of the guests through the walls or as anyone passed by outside - totally dug that. We felt safe and secure in the neighborhood walking around both during the evening and day. Overall budget friendly, close to everything, just needs a little TLC in the bathroom and again diggin' the location,...
