Five Stars Isn’t Enough — This Hotel Redefines Luxury
I travel often and have stayed at countless “luxury” hotels across California and beyond—but nothing compares to the AC Hotel by Marriott in Sacramento. This is, without question, the best hotel I have ever stayed in. From the moment I arrived, every detail exuded elegance, intentionality, and hospitality at its finest.
The hotel was immaculately clean—not just the rooms, but the hallways, common areas, and even the rugs, which are often overlooked elsewhere. There wasn’t a single stain or smudge in sight, something I’ve sadly grown accustomed to at so-called luxury properties in downtown Sacramento and other major cities. Not here. This place sparkles.
The aesthetic of the hotel is modern yet warm, clearly designed by someone who values both function and beauty. The furniture is not only stylish but thoughtfully placed, and every corner of this hotel—from the lobby to the rooms—shows a level of care and precision that’s becoming rare in today’s hospitality industry.
But what truly makes this hotel exceptional is the people.
Let me start with Mike, the front desk supervisor. Seeing someone take such pride in their appearance and role was refreshing beyond words. Mike was impeccably dressed in a full suit, tie, and even an ascot—something I haven’t seen in over 20 years. His nails were manicured, his clothing spotless, and his demeanor warm, professional, and polished. He greeted every guest with genuine hospitality and grace. You could tell he took his role seriously—and it made all the difference.
Then there’s Steve, the bar supervisor, who was equally professional, attentive, and knowledgeable. He made the bar feel like a high-end lounge, not just a hotel amenity. Every interaction with staff—valet, housekeeping, kitchen crew—was marked by the same level of care and pride.
To upper management and ownership: I truly hope you take this review to heart. Yes, you have an incredible product and a beautifully designed hotel—but what sets your property apart is your team.
Please take care of them—financially and professionally—because a staff like this is incredibly rare. You can build a stunning hotel, but finding people who work well together, take pride in their roles, and treat guests with genuine warmth and professionalism is something money can’t buy. That’s your competitive edge.
Keep investing in these individuals. They’re the reason your guests return—not just for the ambiance, but for the experience your team creates.
To the entire staff at AC Hotel Sacramento: thank you. You’ve set a new standard, and I’ll never stay anywhere else when...

Breakfast was excellent and filling.
I was served by both Olivia, and Ethan. They made the stay very comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable. Thank you!

On a separate note, I will respond to some negative reviews I saw below, because I think the star rating at the time of this review (3.5/5) does not reflect the quality and performance of the hotel and staff.
Breakfast is not expensive - it’s an all-you-can eat quality breads, cheese, meat cuts, yoghurt, pastries and more. I thought it a steal for $23, I could eat like a king! If you’re not here for the experience then eat the oatmeal in the bag you carry for these situations when you don’t want to pay. It’s what I do, but I CHOSE to eat the breakfast there knowing the price and quality - they let me look before I committed to eating there!
The toilets having a clear door means nothing at all, you’re in your own room so no one can see you. Also, if you’re hiding from the person staying in the room with you, get separate rooms if you’re that picky about them seeing you, or better yet - Ask them to stay away from the bathroom door, you cannot see into the bathroom from the bedroom/office of the hotel room. (Who closes the bathroom door anyway? I thought them very unnecessary in hotel rooms. I walk around naked after the shower while I get ready. Hahah!)
The beds are really nice, clean, fresh, and new. For someone to say they are hard or rough must come from having really soft preferences at home. Nothing wrong with that - but small differences like this are not possible for a hotel to accommodate as they need a one-size-fits-all approach. They do their best to accommodate what preferences they can - Which is why for each bed 2 pillows are firm, and two are soft.
It’s a shame the voting power people like this have and how it reflects in the stars for a company.
All of the complaints sound as silly as - “I wanted waffles but they didn’t have it so I’m giving them 1 star.”
You could have read the website when you booked to know what they do, and...
Read moreThis was actually my second stay at this hotel in 4 weeks as I had to revisit Sacramento for work. The first stay was uneventful (as it should be) but this second time, about 2am, I couldn't take the loud hum of the AC unit. I tried and tried to sleep through it with no luck. I'm used to sleeping in a silent, or at least quiet space. No matter what adjustments I made to the thermostat through the night, it wouldn't quiet it. I even turned the unit off with the thermostat and it was like it was detached from the unit because nothing changed. Thinking that the thermostat was broken, I called down to the front desk and Michael was very nice about it. He brought me a key to another room within 5 minutes after explaining my issue. I packed all my stuff (clothes and computers) and went down to the new room, just to find the same issue. It's 3:30am and still up and I'm sleepy as hell , but can't get to sleep now from the relentless noise of the AC THAT'S TURNED OFF. As I lay here, I just checked the Google reviews of this hotel and see that there have been other complaints about the AC noise. This is a HUGE issue and I must have been dead tired the first stay because I can't see how I slept through this. I'll know next time to just choose another hotel. Now I see why it's called AC Hotel - You can't turn off the AC!!!!
6:00am followup - I eventually ended up getting to sleep... but only after thinking to put on my noise-canceling headphones. A good night's sleep shouldn't need this!
Alternatively, the staff is awesome and the rooms are very modern and moderately appointed. If the AC unit was as quiet as other hotel rooms I've stayed in, I would have...
