I hate giving one star, but this restaurant earned it. My family just moved to Saginaw, and we have noticed that this restaurant is ALWAYS hopping, so we decided to go try it out, and boy did we make a mistake.
I had the chicken flautas, rice, and beans; my wife had a fajita chicken chimichanga; my daughter had the kid's chicken strips w/papas (french fries). Each adult entree was ~$9.
The Chimichanga sauce had a STRONG taste of cream of chicken canned soup, and the chicken in both the flautas and the chimichanga was entirely bland, as though it was not seasoned at all before it reached the table. The sour cream sauce would have been more fitting as an alfredo over pasta, and the french fries my daughter received were limp, overly greasy nastiness.
As we "finished" our meal, we agreed that my daughter's chicken strips were the best tasting thing on the table. I'm not sure how people can live in the Fort Worth area and think that this is good Mexican food, but even the chips were flavorless and not much better than a bag of Rosa's from the store.
The staff was fine: our server did her job efficiently enough, though the cashier was too busy flirting with some boys by the door to allow me to pay in a timely manner.
Maybe they were just having an off day (I doubt it), but we won't be back...
Read moreI was very excited to try El Sombrero, I've driven by it many times and it is usually packed. Although, after eating it im not exactly sure why? It must be the service because that was the best part, even though we ordered take away the young lady that helped us was just a delight. I ordered chicken fajita nachos, and beef fajita tacos. You can imagine my surprise when I open my box of nachos to find HUGE chunks of dry and bland chicken. It was so dull I almost fell asleep eating it, I guess I was expecting strips like traditional tex mex fajitas packed with flavor; didn't even finish a quarter of them. I started on the fajita tacos and again was hugely disappointed. The flavor decent but that was not fajita beef meat, it was more along the line of barbacoa. Once I got over my shock of what seemed like a block of melted cheese on top I got half of one down. The rice was nothing spectacular, and the beans were definitely from a can and the lack of flavor told me everything I needed to know. Don't expect to much from their salsa, while it wasn't the worst I have eaten I wouldn't place it in the top 5. More than likely I wont eat here again, but I would be willing to give it another go and see if they can...
Read moreFirst my wife and I went there we felt uncomfortable with the "profiling" behavior of the greeter that chooses where you sit... they would sit all their" chosen" costumers at the front section...and they sat us at another section where the bar was located..near a trash receptacle..I would never bring this up if we didn't witness this behavior being administered to the Hispanic costumers being a Mexican establishment...they were all ushered to the back while all their white costumers were sat at the front...that practice is disgusting and unacceptable...we work hard for ourselves and live in the same neighborhood as the other people there...why treat us like we deserve to be next to the garbage can...By the way" I'm Puerto Rican and my wife is Irish American " just so that there's no misunderstanding as to whom they're profiling...we're Americans and we work and pay like everyone else...sad to say that their staff are taught if not instructed ," to practice this behavior while being Hispanic themselves. Never will visit this place again...but the food was great an so was our waitress...TOO BAD...we really enjoyed...
