Honestly, if you are reading reviews let this be your reminder to go elsewhere. Blue Mound Cafe is just down the road. However, I went here for breakfast first. I ordered off the menu, so I thought it was pretty self explanatory. The menu said 2 sausage and 2 bacon. The waitress asked if I wanted sausage OR bacon. Not both. My fiancé got the one that said sausage, bacon, and ham. He only got sausage and bacon. Not to leave out that they completely forgot his toast. The waffle was burnt. The eggs were okay. The bacon and sausage was gross. Tasted old. But people rant and rave about this place. So, today we decided to go for lunch. It was around 2 so it wasn’t busy. We waited a long while for our waitress to even come take our order after our drinks. Didn’t bother to ask if we needed a straw, no big deal, I could ask for one later, right?! WRONG! She never came back, only to holler at us from the other side of the bar asking if we needed refills. Finally that’s when we got to ask for a straw. She gave us attitude every time she came to the table. I didn’t get her name, but she was a middle aged Hispanic woman. I seen the other waitress keep coming to her tables making sure they were taken care of. Wish we could’ve had her! Okay… but on to the food. We ordered 2 chicken fried steaks, 2 mashed potatoes, and 2 corn. The mashed potatoes were the best part. They felt homemade. Chunks of potatoes to munch through. Chicken fried steak was so-so. Pretty bland. The corn… absolutely disgusting!! It tasted like sour corn from a can. It was hard like it never was cooked. Then, on top of the hardness it was sour. Literally like someone poured lemon juice on it. I don’t know what they were going for but it was terrible. Now, if you have read this whole review, by now you know you’d be better going elsewhere. We tried to keep our business local, but we will never return here. We will drive a little further to go to Blue Mound Cafe for better food and...
Read moreI've lived in Saginaw for 14yrs and before this morning, had never been to JR's... for no reason at all. I can say with confidence, I'll never again say the words "Hey, let's go to JR's!". The issue is not the food. The food's good, but not better than anywhere else. It's the atmosphere. True, it's a Saturday morning, but it's Saturday morning everywhere, and they just don't seem to handle it well. This is a place where the staff seems to have been there a looooong time, and I would've hoped I would've seen them enjoying their time there with friendly interaction. There was none of that. They all just seemed beat down at best. I go to Dixie House Cafe down the road and with the same crazy busy atmosphere, they all seem to somehow enjoy it there and connect well with their customers. THAT'S why you go back to places like these. Not to mention the way everyone is crammed into this place! I'm constantly having to move just to let people walk around! Not an enjoyable experience on any level for a weekend breakfast. Obviously this is only my opinion, but the food and service is NOT worth the hassle...esp when there are several other restaurants close by that are getting...
Read moreThis places food has been hit or miss since re-opening. I have friends who have stated their experience wasn't worth going back. I have only been here for the breakfast so far. My brother and I ordered the usual Southern Breakfast, which includes eggs, bacon, sausage link or patty, hash browns or home fries (peppers n onions) and biscuits n gravy $8. I always order the hash browns extra crispy. Today they were browned nice, but not crispy (like they had been browned then covered and steamed) Nothing on the plate was crisp. I've always enjoyed the crispy bacon, but not today. My brother claimed the biscuit n gravy wasn't up to par, as we have had to send these back before being served cold. Kind of reminiscent of that. My eggs were cooked to order and over medium. My brother ordered the same over medium, but proclaimed he needed a spoon to eat them. I took a look and knew I couldn't eat em like that. I wouldn't even call these over easy. You couldn't even compare mine to his. The wait staff are always on point. Quick with the refills and courtesy chat. Convenience and decent price will keep us coming back. I'd like to try the lunch sometime. We'll...
