La Vie Vegan — Restaurant in Saint Charles

Fantastic! I made a special trip while passing through town to try this place and I'm so glad I did. I came for the macarons and left with that and some. I had a chicken crepe with the sun dried tomatoes and such- was bomb and super filling. The macarons are so fun and beautifully done. It is so hard to find a good vegan macaron! Let me tell you! These were so yummy and even had that good crunch when you bite into it. Wonderfully done!! (I got the summer specials- love that they have rotating flavors to keep things exciting!!)

The wonderful young lady at the register did a great job explaining things to me (for my first visit) & making sure to make it a super enjoyable trip. I drove a few hours today and only arrived about 15-20 minutes to close which I totally hate doing, but seeing as I was only in town for the night I went for it. I wish I remembered her name- but the staff was wonderful & made sure to let me know I didn't need to rush. She also brought my order out to my car because I had my cats with me. AND she brought them both a special "kitty (pup) cup" so to speak of dairy free whipped cream. What a treat! They loved that ! So rare that cats get included in the fun! & They're pet friendly so I might bring them in with me on the next trip now that I know.

What a delight! I am not vegan or vegeteraian, but thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine from La Vie Vegan. While the restaurant is located in a lower level space, the owner has created a darling Parisian Cafe vibe. I loved the children's play area, and a little retail corner that offers French items for purchase. There is a full drink menu and food menu that is filled with unique and delicious options. It also has the most extensive list of Gluten Free options that I have ever seen in any restuarant. One of the highlights are the savory and sweet crepes. It is different from any crepes I have had before, and they were delicious. I had the barbeque brisket crepe with a selection of vegan cheeses. I chose cheddar, and also tried the same crepe with smoked gouda. We also tried the Veggie Crepe with Italian sausage that was stuffed with deliciousness. We tried the caprese sandwich which was amazing and also the BLT croissant. While both were delicious, the BLT had only one strip of bacon. I think at least two would have been better. There is an option of a croissant or gluten free baguette. We also tried the sweet cinnamon crepe and the Sweet Hazelnut crepe. We also tried some of the macarons and one of the bars as well. All were good, some with interesting flavor combinations. You also have the option to take your food and eat in a lovely outdoor dining area. I will definitely be visiting...

The Good:

Service: Staff was friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere: Pleasant breakfast environment. No complaints about the service team

The Bad:

Misleading French theming: The restaurant presents itself with French aesthetics, but the food has absolutely nothing to do with authentic French cuisine Terrible "crepes":

Salade Niçoise: Disappointing Savory Veggie Crêpe: Disappointing Savory BBQ Crêpes: Completely awful - The crepes were severely overcooked and dried out with awful BBQ filling If you're going to call something "crepes," at least research how they're actually made in France

Bottom Line: Nice staff and atmosphere can't save terrible food. The French branding feels like false advertising when the actual dishes bear no resemblance to what they claim to be. Suggestion: Consider hiring a new chef who actually understands the cuisine you're trying to represent. The current kitchen staff clearly doesn't know how to execute these dishes properly.
