Went to this location with my partner on Monday to purchase his first firearm. When it was our turn at the firearm counter the gentleman helping us was very condescending, rude, and disrespectful. The first question he asked my partner was if he’s able to afford the firearm he planned on purchasing. This was a very inappropriate to ask a customer, especially when the price tag is right there in the case with the gun and we hadn’t even gotten to the background check yet. The associate then went on to say it’s a required question, yet I’ve never heard of any question like that nor did he have any paperwork or a computer in front of him to record the “required” question’s answer. After the employee’s absurd question he continued on to grilling my partner with questions about the address on his ID. Before answering this question my partner tried explaining to the employee that he has two different places of residence that he goes back and fourth from so there could be two possible different addresses on that ID, and he will tell him both possible addresses with other legal documentation of proof of residence for both addresses, but my partner was immediately cut off by the employee and told to just answer what’s the address on his ID. My partner couldn’t remember which of the two addresses were on there had answered the wrong one. The employee immediately turned him away telling us he couldn’t sell the firearm to us despite ever running a background check, or asking for other documentation proving he has two different legal addresses. The employee wasn’t trying to answer anymore of our questions and was extremely rude throughout the entire process.
We decided on going to the Cabela’s / Bass Pro in Hazlewood and had a wonderful experience and were able to purchase the firearm without any issues in regards to having two legal addresses. My partner was never asked any questions pertaining to the affordability of the gun, nor was he quizzed about his ID. We were only asked for the ID, if the address on the ID was accurate, and to complete the background check.
I’m very disappointed with the service I received at the St. Charles location. I’m a frequent customer but will no longer be returning to this location. I suggest purchasing firearms elsewhere where you won’t be racially profiled and asked...
Read moreIf you are a female looking to buy a firearm, this isn’t the place for you to shop or ask questions.
I asked if they had a similar hand gun to the Rugger P95 and the man behind the counter who spoke condescendingly from the minute my name was called (you have to sign up on a list for help behind the counter), informed me that I didn’t own a P95 because it doesn’t exist and it’s not a real gun. Told me I didn’t know what I was talking about. Funny - I own one. I know Rugger doesn’t manufacture them anymore which is why I asked if they had anything similar. He looked direct into my soul to tell me that is not what I had and I was mistaken. No way I knew what I was talking about.
I asked about a small hand gun that was compact to keep in a glove box and he told me my hands were too big. Like I need a daily shooter… wth. I told him I would take it anyway.
Then, I asked questions about an AR that didn’t have a tag, he became irate and belittled me further. He continued to speak loudly and condescendingly as if putting on a show to the other patrons in the area.
Keep in mind I had 3 Guns ready to purchase at this point in his possession. Putting up with his demeanor the whole time.
I just walked away and left. It was the worst experience I’ve had at any retail store.
My daughter called and spoke with the manager. The store manager apologized and said they would call us back to setup a time with the hunting manager to purchase the items.
No one called.
It is the job of those running the gun counter to answer questions. It is their job to be knowledgeable. I’m not saying they need to know about every gun ever made, but to tell someone a gun they own doesn’t exist is ludicrous. Especially considering it was one of the most popular and widely manufactured models. It is not their job to make comments regarding if I have the money to purchase an item or if I will actually purchase the items I am looking at.
After seeing a few other reviews I felt compelled to share my experience to prevent this from happening to anyone else.
I had only purchased from gun shops prior to today. Lesson learned. Stick with the gun shops and not a big box store.
100% agree with my daughter that we were treated this way because we were female. ...

Crowded on Weekends: Due to the popularity of Bass Pro Shop, the store can get quite crowded on weekends, especially during peak seasons. Navigating through the aisles and waiting in line at the checkout counter can be a bit time-consuming. If possible, I recommend visiting on weekdays or during less busy hours to avoid the crowds.
While Bass Pro Shop offers a variety of outdoor-themed dining options, the food choices within the store itself are somewhat limited. The available options mainly consist of fast-food style snacks and quick bites. If you're looking for a sit-down restaurant or more diverse food options, you may need to explore nearby establishments.
