I'm not sure if we just got this place on an off night but we were so very disappointed. This was our one year anniversary dinner and it was abysmal.
I want to be clear in saying the venue was beautiful and the staff was attentive, professional, and amazing. That said, this was not our first experience with fine dining and their offerings were not even close to deserving of a $140 price tag. We paid $75 (with gratuity) at Trezo Mare just Friday night and the food was exceptional. We paid $220 at The Golden Ox in KCMO (including tip, drinks, and Oysters Rockefeller that were incredible) and it was mind-blowing. Here we paid $140 for what was basically artfully plated cafeteria food.
My boyfriend's lamb was gamey and overcooked. In the year I've been with this man he has NEVER not offered me a bite (it's kinda our thing). He ALWAYS clears his plate. Neither of those things happened this time. I was so sad because I picked the restaurant and he picked the bed and breakfast and I felt like I let him down.
My "filet mignon" was absolutely not filet mignon. I've ordered filet mignon. I've cooked it myself. Never in my life has it had the consistentcy and flavor of roast beef. The veggies were absolutely frozen and unseasoned (really, y'all couldn't sautee them in butter and garlic?). The mashed potatoes were undoubtedly instant mashed potatoes. Y'all I have been poor. I have struggled. I know frozen veggies and powdered potatoes when I taste them. These are such bare minimum sides that aren't complicated to make delicious and they put in zero effort.
The crab cakes were lovely but I wonder now if those were also from the frozen food aisle. The cheese souffle was... okay? But kinda tasteless. A dollop of creme fraiche and a sprinkle of chive might have saved it. The salad was...a salad. Dessert was good, but I'm not much of a sweets person so I won't weigh in much here.
I honestly struggled writing this review because truly the service and people were lovely. But we're still talking about this poor experience a month later and like, I'm sorry, but the owners need to know what a total let down this was. For the love of God, please procure fresh veggies, meats, and fresh prep your potatoes. Don't hinge your entire business on being in a pretty, historic home and just hope people don't notice you're serving them overpriced,...
Read moreMy husband and I received a $150 gift certificate from out of state friends Christmas 2022. Wanted to save it for our first date anniversary in December, and attempted to make reservations the Saturday after Thanksgiving 2023. Emailed, then called and left a voicemail after their message said they’d be in business, and emailed again, trying to compliment them whilst trying to grab a reservation 3 weeks in advance. Instead, I was questioned on my personal life choices with “why did you wait so long”, argued with and even mocked believe it or not, with no attempt to ever “check for availability” for me. I tried to just respond back with “thank you for checking” instead of getting in a fight. Never heard back and here it is a week later. Very disappointed because I’d heard nice things about them before even though looking through reviews now, you're paying “fine dining” prices for a scoop of boxed mashed potatoes, frozen vegetables, and a thawed roll with meat that is not filet mignon cuts. Something I’d serve in the elementary cafeteria. Money wasted all around for false advertisement with rude and unprofessional behavior.
In response to the chef, you chose to make this personal topic public and again as stated in my email, I am sorry for your loss. That had NOTHING to do with this and you know that! Too bad I’m unable to post our conversation here. Want to talk about selfish behavior when you’re using your father’s passing as an excuse for your rude behavior?! You had no intentions of letting me extend as your certificate states “JC Wyatt House will NOT extend this date.” Also, not hearing back from you an entire week after I was so rudely spoken to, I assumed you made yourselves “unavailable”. The least you could do would be to refund, sure that won’t happen. I have every right to leave an opinion just as you do and everyone else. Can’t please...

Celebrated a special birthday with friends here. The gourmet meals were superb and delicious made by a classically trained chef.. It was if you were eating artwork off your plate. The salmon was roasted and served over a delicious corn pudding. The seasoned vegetables were not only delectable but were beautiful in presentation & color. The filet mignon was so tender & surrounded with amazing potatoes and a seasoned vegetable medley.
The museum quality of the Victorian home was breathtaking from details on the ceiling to the Victorian era furniture. So cozy with soft lightening and elegant decor that creates a perfect setting for any special occasion. The beauty and museum quality was something out of a magazine.
Both the owner (Jim) and chef (Jeff) were so attentive and friendly. The 3 course meal was exquisite and beautiful…almost as if eating artwork in a museum. The trio desserts were out of this world. And to top the evening off, the owner shared delightful stories of his experiences renovating this incredible beautiful 1891 Victorian home.
It was an evening I will always cherish. Expect one of the most amazing dinner experiences you’ve ever had! No wonder it has won the “Certificate of Excellence award from 2014-2023. Thank you Jim & Jeff for making my birthday a memorable one with family...
