Mac's Fish / Chips / Strips — Restaurant in Saint Paul

ETA: After posting a similar review on Facebook, a very kind person from Mac's did reach out to me. They were understanding and apologetic and definitely changed my perspective. Before the incident described below, we always had good experiences and that has led me to believe this might have been an isolated incident. I have raised my review from 1 stars to 3. If I do decide to return and have a better experience, I will happily up the review more. Thank you to the kind individual who reached out to me and made things right.

Went here with my mom today for lunch as we usually like to when we are on this side of town. Not sure if ownership changed, or just a crabby employee that is new since we were here last, but the experience was terrible. Yolando (person's name according to the receipt) was very rude from the get go. Not just "having a bad day and down" type of attitude (which we all have, and is understandable), but what seemed to be deliberately unkind.

After ordering, my mom mentioned that prices must have gone up as our total for two #1's with cod was close to $30. Having checked the menu before I ordered, I thought that didn't sound right. Turns out she was charged for 2 #2's. Mom went up to the counter to correct this, and Yolando rudely said, "nope, you ordered 2 #2's. I repeated it twice," even though we both are confident that is not what was ordered. Even if there was an error on our end, there is no reason to be so disrespectful, especially considering we were not matching his rudeness (As someone who has worked in the service/retail industry and dealt with rude customers, I go out of my way to not act in such a way). Friendly reminder that this kind of attitude can ruin someone's day on either side of the interaction. We left disappointed and wasting a bunch of food. If I could give this order zero stars, I would.

We had a pretty terrible experience tonight. We ordered our food online at 5:45PM to be picked up at 6:15PM. We arrived there about 6PM, and I went in to let them know I was there. I was told that our food would be ready as soon as they could make it and that they'd bring it out.

I noticed that none of the employees were wearing masks of any sort.

We waited until 6:20 before I went back in, noticing that people who just walked up to place their orders are getting their food before we are. I was told that the food is made in the order in which it was received and that my food would be coming up soon and there was nothing he could do about it. I asked how long it would take as was told it would be no longer than 15 minutes.

At 6:30, I watched a guy walk in and get his food immediately. As he walked back to his car, I asked when he placed his order, and he said he placed it at 6 to pick up at 6:30. So, someone who placed their order after I did got his order before I did.

At 6:40, I went back in and asked where my food was again. It was another 5 minutes before it finally came up. The man behind the counter did not apologize, but he handed me a $10 "gift certificate" saying that I can use this for next time. I gave it back saying that I'd be hard pressed to come back after the quality of service I got.

Our order was for 4 strips of cod, 1 walleye, 1 chicken strip and one order of cheese curds. I didn't order anything out of the ordinary.

I also felt that I was shorted on sauces that I paid extra for.

This is a place to stop by while your in the area. It seems alot cleaner and better then other fish and chip places in the area. Only reason I didn't give it all 5 stars is because I had better fish and chips before but it is best in this area.

This places fish was delicious. We tried all the different types of fish. The prices were excellent, especially for quality for quantity. They serve the fish with fries that are ok and Cole slaw with is ok.

The Taffy that they have here is my favorite part of this place. They make the Taffy fresh in house and they showed us how they even stretch it. There is alot of flavors which I tried all that were there. All the flavors tasted amazing and they tasted like the names of the Taffy!.

The customer service skills of the employees are amazing! The lady that was at the cashier was very friendly and helpful. She explained everything on the menu very detailed like we wanted.

This places is a very cozy inviting fish shop! There decor matches the theme. They had enough places for us to sit and have super even thou it looks very small when you see it from the outside and first walk-in.

I think anyone in this area should stop by this fish and chip places for some excellent food made by friendly staff. DON'T...
