The food quality seems to have gone way down. We aren't complainers, so we only sent back the beignets...which were so under cooked the dough came out of it like a mozzarella stick. The Drake Hash was either poorly conceived or poorly prepared, but it was just large chunks of Prime Rib that had been cooked to well, full size red potatoes that were supposed to be smashed, but were still too hard for that, and two very nicely poached eggs. I asked for a side of Hollandaise, so they put all of the foyot on the side as well. So I got what tasted like cold think gravy, and a nice side of also cold hollandaise. I also ordered a side of bacon because two decades ago (when I worked there) it was called the Cafe and the bacon was thick and perfectly cooked to order. For brunch the bacon we got was cold, tough and greasy enough to leave a pool on the plate.
The ambiance was interrupted by half closed curtains to a service area, and banquet tables with huge metal bars and wheels on them that got in the way of my legs no matter how I seemed to sit. There were much nicer and cozier tables available, but it looked like they were seatimg everyone in the same upper section.
The service was and always has been top notch.
It's a shame, because this was our first time back in quite a long time, and afterward we enjoyed the Opera at the Ordway and a lovely walk through the St Paul Hotel Garden on the way.
We would like to have made this a new tradition...when we go to the Opera, but we will have to read the other reviews and see if our experience was a...
Read moreMy husband and I had breakfast this morning at the Drake in the St Paul Hotel were we are staying for 2 nights. Server Katherine M. took us to a table in the very back by the kitchen but when asked to be moved to another table because it was noisy, you could tell she got a little mad. She then took us to another table and sat us right next to a couple that was coughing and blowing their nose constantly so we asked to be moved. That really upset her. It was very obvious to us. When we were done eating our breakfast she never removed our dirty plates. Someone with that attitude should not work be working with the public. We left and won't be back to that restaurant. I tried looking for a place to contact the restaurant manager but couldn't find a place so I am writing this review. Most servers are very friendly but...

My husband, some friends and I have been coming here for special occasions: Christmas and Easter celebrations. The first time we came, there was a wonderful buffet and people could enjoy the vast offer of delicious food as much as desired. Unfortunately, that format of meal is not available anymore. In recent visits we god a menu to choose our dishes from. The quality of the food continues to be very delectable and my new favorite is the grilled shrimp with polenta and fresh fruit on the side. My husband ordered the omelet dish this time. In a past visit he ordered the quesadilla.
It’s nice to be in a traditional well decorated St Paul landmark hotel and admire the historical...
