I hate giving a review like this but felt like our experience needed to be shared. We were so excited to come try out Shrimpys on the waterfront after a recommendation from a local. We also heard they have beignets so it was so great excitement.
We get there and it’s packed- it’s a weekend/ evening/ holiday so that’s fine. We get seated and order our food.. and then wait.. and wait.. and we wait so long that the waitress finally brings out a free appetizer because we still don’t have our food. Drinks are melted and long since drank.
After awhile, we waited so long we were about to talk to a manager saying cancel the food and we’ll just go somewhere else. By this time we had waited OVER 2 HOURS, with no apologies no explanation of what was going on. Our waitress eventually stopped coming over to the our table and we couldn’t even find her, pretty sure she was avoiding us because there still wasn’t anything that we came there for on the table.
Right as we were going to find a manager they brought the food out, and it was incredibly disappointing. They claim to style their food after New Orleans cuisine, but I’ve been to NOLA several times and if you have too you’d know this is not any kind of worthy representation. I’m not sure if we caught them on an extra bad day in the kitchen but it was like they forgot to season the food- and if you know creole, the seasoning is everything.
My friends jambalaya was so dry he tried pouring the sauce from our appetizer on it just to try and revive it, which didn’t work. My seafood quesadilla was just cheese, shrimp and scallops and hardly any seasoning or any way to make it take not bland. This was all just so disappointing. We had a party of 5- so it was a slightly bigger party but still no reason to wait 2+ hours for food, and with absolutely no apology or cutting some things off the bill (besides an appetizer of chips we didn’t order like an hour before) it literally and metaphorically put a bad taste in our mouths.
I’m not sure I would ever have an interested in coming back here. We never got the...
Read moreWhen you are placing your order, dine in make sure your food comes with the items that is included and not charged up charge Also, when the waitress brings you water, it should be in a large glass with ice j. Not a baby glass no ice, whether you are sitting on the inside or outside? We should not have to ask for water with ice in a large cup. Kelly, our waitress, came to take our order which was tacos that come with chips any side order is a extra fee. Cool
When the food was delivered to the table, that was no chips, the other 2 people in our party also ordered tacos that should also come with chips Kelly was asked, where are the chips that come with the order she said oh I forgot. She returned with on basket of chips we asked where are the other chip they come with the taco order
Kelly, the unfriendly waitress stated if you get a side order then that illuminates the chips(what). She proceeded to say when you order a side now becomes a up charge and eliminates the chips
We ask for the manager, so two managers comes over later. We explain the situation of how we placed an order, but did not get. what comes automatically with the order The managers apologized and stated Kelly was in error in quoting an up charge and they were so sorry if we wanted an extra dessert, a donut full of sugar for our inconvenient. Of course, the answer was no. We wanted them to be aware when people placed a food order it should, what is included and not at the waitress discretion to decide what’s gonna be a charge and what should be eliminated If you choose to go to a Shrimpys on the beach, make sure you get what you expected to pay for. Hopefully you won’t get waitress Kelly who decides what’s an up charge and what’s gonna be eliminated...

The ONLY negative was the high top seats we had were a little hard but it ends there!
Nice live entertainment in the outside dining area.
Lots of large TV's for sports dining both inside & out.
My wife had the "NOLA BBQ shrimp pasta" . It was great & yummy with plenty of nice sized shrimp. No the shrimp were not BBQ tasting per se but just a good grilled saute blacked type in butter.
I had the "World Famous Torpedo" = Shrimp & lots of scallops sautéed in Nola butter stuffed into a hollowed toasted French bun loaf. The waiter recommended it, wow was it a hit! I highly recommend! Packed with meat like the picture I took!
As my side I choose the "Shrimp Bisque" which I highly "HIGHLY" recommend!
Not many restaraunts where I leave & I actually feel like I got a good deal with the price. Yea it's a tad spendy but with a plentiful supply of shrimp & especially scallops you usually don't get that feeling when you pay the bill!
For dessert we has the "two keylime cheese cake Canolli" It was smooth creamy with the twangy keylime you only get in Florida.
Most meals you get at any restaraunt you will have at least one fly in the ointment that makes it less than perfect.. No flies here!
Last but not least was our waiter.. Didn't catch his name but a good looking black gentleman that was very nice.
A perfect experience as we watched a crane catch fish in the water as we relaxed watching the sun disappear as we listened to live guitar music that was...
