When my wife and I arrived on this Saturday morning, (22 June 2024) we were greeted by a very professional and courteous hostess. We were seated and looked around at the ambiance of the dining area. Nice. That all changed when our waitress, I won't name names here, approached our table. It seemed as if my wife didn't exist. Very disturbing. After taking our drink order she left. During this time, we witnessed other patrons being seated around us. It was starting to get a little busy. Crowd noise was elevating. Normal stuff. Our waitress returned and took our food order. I ordered the Three Eggs Your Way. Scrambled soft. I added, cheddar cheese, mushrooms and spinach. She had to go sked if she could add items to my eggs. And, they don't have spinach. A scratch kitchen restaurant in the middle of St. Pete doesn't have spinach! Arugula. (oh, a $3.50 up charge for 15 leaves of Arugula, $2.50 for 1/4 cup of small, diced mushrooms and $2.00 for cheese) And my wife the Croissant Sandwich. We were told it came with potatoes.
After a few minutes, 3 ladies (eastern European) were seated next to us. And the waiter did his normal stuff about drinks and such. Another 3 patrons (Asian) were seated on the other side of us. However, this is where is gets unnerving. My wife and I notice the service we and the Asian patrons were receiving. Short, abrupt answers to questions. Nothing explained pertaining to the menu choices we or the Asian patrons made. Hell, we didn't even receive straws for our water. But, the well-dressed European ladies, and every other patron that had slacks, a button up shirt, and a dress did. We felt as if we were looked down upon just because we wore shorts and casual summer shirts.
Now to the food. The table with the European ladies, that waiter needs a medal! Those ladies made so many modifications to their order it wasn't funny. Kudos to him. Not only did he explain every spice or seasoning that was in, "The potatoes", he made accommodations to each menu item that was ordered. Our waitress, however, did nothing of the sort. No personality, nothing explained, short abrupt answers. My eggs... Came out over cooked with hardly any cheese, looking like it was something a 10-year-old could have cooked. So, I paid $28.50 for some crap a 10-year-old could've cooked, and more likely better. As for my wife's sandwich, she stated, " I've had better microwaved sandwiches than this". To say the least, this was our first and last time to this restaurant. We frequent St. Pete often. And this was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had...
Read moreEpic disappointment here today on Thanksgiving. Absolute terrible overall service and some of the most bland food I’ve ever had. We were really excited to do the Thanksgiving lunch here and had high hopes. Made a reservation for 11:30 and got here about 11. Good thing we did because the line was crazy. I’m wondering if even the staff didn’t know how busy it would be because it was almost embarrassing to watch. At one point the hostess and some lady (manager I’m assuming ) had words about the line getting out of hand. We finally got sat outside. Got menus eventually but he forgot the holiday menu. We eventually got it and so far so good. Server was nice but the follow through just sucked to be honest. No joke at least three tables next to us were complaining about the service. One lady on the other side of door was seated before we even got there and she eventually came up to our sever and said she needs to order. She appears quite upset. Then the lady at the table in front of us was still waiting even though she was seated before us.
Anyways, we order a drink and put our food in right away. Wife had the Thanksgiving option and I had biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. Then the time passed and passed and passed and people seated way after us started getting their food. Eventually as our drinks were dried up and nobody checked on us, he told us he was sorry and claims he put the ticket in and the kitchen missed it. Ok whatever I’m sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle there.
Food finally comes out right before we were about to just cut our losses, pay for the drinks and leave. Biscuits and gravy were absolutely bland and terrible. They forgot my bacon and we had no salt, pepper or anything and of course time passed before a server finally came back. The eggs were absolute trash and tasted like they belong on a fast food sandwich. They were like folded over, luke warm, thick, and zero flavor. My wife said the stuffing was the best part of her holiday meal and overall we were just truly disappointed.
Not sure if we just got this place on an off day but overall of all the places we eat downtown this was the worst. Only reason I didn’t one star it is because it was fun people watching and hearing...
Read moreIts truly amazing how bad Service can torpedo a dining experience. We arrived promptly for our reservation and were seated. Restaurant looked nice and the happy hour bar scene was lively, but there were only 2 other parties seated inside at tables. Eventually our waiter appeared and even mentioned it was his first week, that should have been our first red flag. Ordered cocktail and a glass of wine, which took too long. Finally, he appears with a Malbec, when we had ordered a Merlot. (I can understand his confusion, they both start with the letter “M”). So we order appetizers and entrees, he disappears and another wait ensues. As near as we could determine, he only had one other table. Perhaps he was in the back, taking a Zoom class for new waiters? A different waiter took pity on us and brought out our food. Unfortunately, the Apps came out together with our entrees. I am assuming the Apps had been sitting in the kitchen for awhile, waiting for the ghost waiter to deliver. We advised our surrogate waiter we weren’t ready for our entrées, and he returned them to the kitchen while we began our Apps. Finally, it was time for the entrees – we had ordered a steak (medium rare) and the snapper. Upon arrival it was apparent they had merely sat our returned entrée order under a warming lamp - the steak was now medium-well and the snapper dried out. A first-rate restaurant would have disposed of them and cooked new. Totally exasperated at that point, we sought out the floor manager, who removed the plates and advised she would have a new order cooked. After waiting 12 more minutes , clueless ghost waiter appears and asked if we were ready to order dessert. At the point we almost lost it, got the floor manager back over and asked her to cancel the entrees, and to advise us what we owed for the Apps. She graciously did the right thing, and compted our partial meal. We then proceeded to seek dinner elsewhere. In summation, the waiter had not been properly trained, and possibly was never allowed to “shadow” an experienced Server ? The whole experience at Cassis could have been so much more favorable with a professional server, but we’ll...
