Beautiful restaurant that's warm and inviting upon entry. Hosts greeted us immediately and got us seated at a very comfortable booth. Our server greeted us promptly and was prepared with recommendations as it was our first time there and the menu had quite a bit to look over from allocated whiskeys to craft cocktails and a great selection of beer & wine. The drinks were noticeably flavorful which was a welcome change from the over diluted & over-imagined craft cocktails in a lot of restaurants. This theme seemed to match the vision for the food - flavorful, fresh, and a unique take on a classic without overindulging on elevated or foreign ingredients. It was really hard to choose what to order to be honest and I'm looking forward to my next visit already! What we ordered:
The fried green tomatoes were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crispy batter and smothered with a delicious and creamy pimento cheese, all of this tired together with smoky bacon and a sweet, vinegary tomato jam on top - chef's kiss.
Pretzels with Cheese Fondue - The fondue looked so good and I couldn't resist. This is a unique cheese with pickled mustard seeds - it adds a bit of tang but the creamy cheese and the thick, salty pretzel were the perfect compliment
Chicken Jager Schnitzel - probably the best thing on the table as far as an actual entree, not the biggest fan of the sides. The chicken was huge and just lightly pounded so the breast was still thick but super juicy. On top is a rich, delicious brown gravy loaded with mushrooms. It's served over mashed potatoes which are okay, not amazing but the chicken had so much flavor I don't know if the potatoes needed to be any more intricate
Pot Roast - this is what I came for and did not disappoint. It's a classic pot roast with a ton of meat, a large portion. Again not thrilled with the potatoes and in this dish it was a bit more noticeable. Overall the flavor was fantastic and the meat was so tender and fell apart, exactly what you would want out of a hearty pot roast
Simply, this is just delicious, familiar food. It's been a long time since I had such a nice experience in a restaurant. You could see the management was engaged and the staff was truly excellent. Thank you for an awesome first experience, looking forward to...
Read moreNice centrally located spot right across from the water. We chose this place because of the menu I was intrigued by the meatloaf dish and my wife was really into the citrus ginger salmon dish so we decided to give it a try. There are so many restaurants along the drag, but this is the one we chose, we went and got seated pretty quickly slightly bit of a wait for the waitress to table but once she came, took our orders for food and drink everything moved along pretty timely. The ambience is pretty unique. I was trying to figure it out the whole time we were there it’s sort of a rustic whiskey bar/modern fusion food it feels like it should be more of a barbecue joint inside but nonetheless and the menu is pretty broad. I asked the waitress what the most popular dish was and she said the chicken tikka which is Indian dish but who is I to argue? As I said I got the meatloaf the portion was humongous, it was good in flavor and moist in the middle but dry around the edges slightly disappointed at that and it was on a bed of sliced carrots and sugar snap peas of which I could not hardly eat. They were too hard. The salmon dish was perfect slightly pink in the middle asparagus were grilled to perfection, and I also had a Caesar salad, which was good but they put kale in it so that threw me off a little bit but still delicious nonetheless they have a nice selection of whiskeys and a pretty cool bar again. The overall field of this place is an oddity on one side of the wall. It’s sort of like a little mini sports bar and on the other side it’s dining, but felt like a smokehouse with a very vast menu prices I thought were pretty reasonable for this area especiallyand they do have a really nice outside seating area which we would have taken advantage of if it had been a little warmer unfortunately, it wasn’t warmest day in Saint Pete, so we opted for...
Read moreHaving been here twice, I feel like I'm just getting started! The first thing that sets this place apart from other places on Beach Ave, in DTSP is the entire staffs attention to detail. The hostesses are warm and welcoming, the bartenders look after their patrons with a kind eye and then the servers. They move fast and efficiently never leaving a guest to wonder if they will return. In the most unassuming way. The modern decor with nods to the areas nautical ties has been done perfectly.
Now on to the food! I have tried the sweet potato tots, warm pretzel, saltine crackers, Charcuterie board, fish & chips, Tavern Burger and the ribs. My most favorite had to of been the pretzel. The light yet dense texture is quite fantastic. Perfectly warm and leaves nothing left to be desired. Then comes the dipping sauce. Almost a cheese mustard hybrid. You really can't go wrong with any food item at Stillwater. They are cocky enough where they know their ribs are sauced perfectly so they didn't provide more. One criticism here is that the ribs were a tad overdone. Otherwise the flavor made up for that.
The drinks are inventive and delightful. Whomever thought of adding bourbon to cold brew with bitters is a genius! It's like a much much classier Red Bull and vodka. Which is to say it gives you a little jolt of caffeine.
I wish I can say I've had dessert but I've always been too full! Just an excuse to...
