Tried this place out this morning, it's nice inside, people are friendly, service was good and food came quick. The food on the other hand could use some help, I ordered the luberjack breakfast, the grits were gross, and I love grits, they were watery and seemed like they used quick grits and they didn't cook them long enough, and with only water and butter. They lacked taste and were gritty, the bacon I'm pretty sure never touched a grill of any kind, it was like cardboard, you could tell it was done in an oven, the French toast was decent, small portion though, 2 thin little slices of a cinnamon swirl bread, and the sausage links looked like they were either microwaved or cooked in a deep frier, again, no sign of touching a grill, but they were still tasty. My wife ordered the ay caramba, it looked good, nice presentation, in a big bowl, she said not enough chorizo though. The coffee was awful, I couldnt finish my 1 cup. This place has good potential, maybe spend a little more on the food quality, I noticed they use US Foods and I do as well for a small cafe I run, and I know what kind of products they have, and these folks need to speak with their rep and maybe get some better quality product. Also maybe change the recipe on your grits, please, I'll help yall out even: 3 quarts water, 1 quarts heavy cream, 1 lbs butter and 1 quart of grits, let the water cream and butter come to a boil and dump in your grits. Cook about 10-15 min on simmer, until...
Read moreThis is clearly an old IHoP and has been refreshed, however they must have done all of the trim and a few other things themselves and not gotten a contractor.
Service was fine. We didn't get our drinks on the first ask, but it wasn't too long of a wait.
The food was placed at the table in under 10 minutes and was akin to cafeteria food in both quality and quantity. The hollandaise was lumpy and thick. The eggs were all perfect. The toast had been reheated and was only luke warm when served. The Canadian ham was 2 small pieces smaller than the size of a coaster. The cinnamon swirl French toast was cold when served, but the taste and consistency were good. The bacon was a little over cooked but delicious. The coffee was excellent for what you can get in Tampa-St Pete-Clearwater, because so many places water theirs down so much. Some of the home fries were not cooked all the way through and were still crunchy in the middle for all 3 plates we purchased. The grits were over cooked, however that's also typical because they take a while to cook fresh and people generally keep them warmed or reheat them.
Our overall experience was that they're serving up cafeteria-quality food for, say, elder homes, which makes the prices way too inflated for what we got and what we saw plated for others.
Separately, we noticed that the updated trim wasn't cornered at all and there are wide gaps and wonky seams. Our ultimate determination was the pun, "They don't know how to...
Read moreI know this place has great reviews. 4.5 at the time of me writing this. However, we won't be back. We got sat pretty quick and needed time to take in the menu. Looking at the menu, I noticed a sticker covering a note that says there is a $2 charge for splitting plates. Maybe they just don't charge that anymore, but I feel like just covering it up is kinda shady.
My wife ordered the very berry crepes with coffee and orange juice and I got the western omelet with water. Our total came out to 48 bucks. 48. The orange juice alone was EIGHT dollars. Those oranges could have been straight from the hands of God and I still wouldn't pay that much money for orange juice.
The only reason my wife got it was because they seat you and immediately ask if you want drinks before you get a chance to really see the menu.
We got no service or refills. We got checked on once and it was at the end so our waitress could drop off the check. When it came time to pay, the owner or whoever he was, was leaning over the register to see if we'd tip. His eyes were on our screen. We did not tip. Not when our waitress never checked on us. She wasn't even the one to bring us our food.
Not like the extra money would go to fixing the place up anyway. The ceilings are water stained and sagging and the parking lot is in rough shape.
Could be that it was an off day but the food is just too bland to even try it again. We gave it a shot. There are better breakfast spots all around...
