Ok yea, most of us write reviews when we are totally upset or highly impressed. I fall into that category. Today I was hungry for pizza, which is pretty often, but I wanted to try a new spot. I Googled "wood fired pizza" and this place came up among a few others. I looked at the websites and the photos and description of this place caught my attention, plus it was 3 in the afternoon so figured we'd get a table. And we did, it was not busy. Besides the photos of the pizzas that looked delicious, a mention of "100 year old" sour dough starter sounded cool. So my wife and I made it to Pizza Box for our dinner. We found the place to be small, comfortable, and simple. The wood oven seemed small, but I faced it sitting at our table and it was hot and the wood burned very well. In fact, I was envious of the firewood they have as I have spent years seeking the best firewood possible in Pinellas County having reasonable success after several years. But their stacked up firewood was high quality and it was easy to know for an old mountain man from Colorado. I'd like to have wood in my stack as good! Anyway, we ordered up some pizza and a couple starters, and drinks. No draft beer, bummer, but they have beer I like anyway and cold glasses. So I was good. Service was awesome, the food excellent. In fact, although we ordered enough that we figured we'd be taking half home, it was mostly devoured as it was so delicious. I love the wood fire "burnt" edge on wood fired sour dough crust pizza and that is what I came for. They hit the target 100%. One of the owners served us, a very cool lady. I believe she made the pizzas as well. That's the kind of place this is. We talked a little bit, but she was busy and mostly I watched her working and admired everything that came out of the oven. I saw one large salad go past and both my wife and I wished we had ordered one. I do recommend this intimate pizza place, and we will be back. It's small and cozy, and I am sure it is packed during busy times, so plan to come early or maybe for lunch for your first time. If you know and like wood fired pizza, you'll be...
Read moreFirst and last time I will experience this restaurant. Just moving here and was suggested by friends I ordered online. Don’t.order online Call only. Your order will be made faster with preference. I didn’t know. Second after ordering and waiting for a total over an hour and ten mins for a pizza. I didn’t care about that. My issue was when the cook and probably the owner comes out and I ask a simple question that he said it was in his computer for a certain time. Issue my app was not the same — off by forty mins. Maybe this was an Ubereats issue but client was waiting for a long time for a pizza when I finally got it was cold and burnt. I literally gave it to the homeless man at the corner. Also saying your client or customer is drunk when I just got off work. Watch your words. I wasn’t negative I was asking a question. I will only call your place. And will probably never go back ever. I am very new to this area and this was a sour experience. Could easily been addressed without the front desk lady making negative comments right when I walked in. I barely write reviews because I know what it is like to have a negative response to an issue in a business. I strived in my company to make things right. After 30 years I know how things should be addressed. Tonight wasn’t one of them. The bottom line. It’s just a pizza and I know the owner is very proud of his business. I congratulate them. But at the same time. You need to hear positive and negative responses. It’s an experience. Tonight wasn’t...
Read moreThe Pizza Box pizzeria is nothing short of a culinary gem in the heart of the St Pete. From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped in an ambiance that perfectly balances rustic charm with modern sophistication. The warm, earthy tones of the decor, combined with the inviting scent of wood-fired pizza, set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.
The menu at The Pizza Box is thoughtfully curated, offering a mix of classic favorites and innovative creations that cater to all tastes. We started off with an appetizer, “Griffy Sticks” (garlic bread), was absolutely amazing. Their homemade marinara sauce was outstanding. We ordered a traditional cheese pizza for the kids and my husband and I shared the “Malibu” with a slight customization. The crust is a work of art—perfectly crisp on the outside with a delicate chewiness inside, creating the ideal base for the rich tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, goat cheese and marinated mushrooms. .
The service at The Pizza Box was exceptional. The attention to detail and genuine hospitality add a personal touch that elevates the entire experience.
