— DOWNTOWN'S HIDDEN GEM — Most people passing through the Downtown Transit Center are unaware that on the opposite side of the building is a tranquil refuge from the havoc of the DTC. The easy access (pass through the hallway from the DTC; or walk around the building) low prices and peaceful atmosphere alone justifies a visit. But what made me a superfan was the quality & flavor of the their products. Especially their smoothies. Capitol Coffee actually makes theirs with fruit puree -(or add vanilla ice cream for a “smoothie shake”)- when more and more businesses are selling “crushed ice & flavored syrup” as a smoothie. Never, ever before have I been welcomed by such warm, friendly service from a comfortably furnished, living room style, fine dining establishment. Nor, have I experienced such a variety of cookies, pastries, parfaits, soups, salads and sandwiches, paired with such an extravagant selection of regular and decaf drinks from everything from plain old "Joe," to shakes, smoothies, sodas, and those sweet and decadent iced and hot beverages that all the "tough guys" look around, and lower their voices while ordering. #Hee-hee-hee!?! I rarely leave reviews on Google, but I can't help myself this time! They were open later on Election night, and with the exhaustion from my work day and the anxiety yet to settle last night, I stopped in to ask if they had cinnamon rolls. The owner (I believe?) was super kind and let me buy 3 cinnamon rolls even though they usually don't sell them until Wednesday morning!
