I'm sure my experience is an outlier by all the other good reviews, but I wanted to share it anyways. I was eating alone, as I was in town for business. The reviews and how busy the place was on a Monday night brought me in. I wanted some queso, and saw a "house special" dip. Sounded good, so I ordered it, but can't remember exactly what it was called, or what it was supposed to taste like. I think the smothered pork steak was the entree that jumped out at me. My waiter was new, but friendly and answered questions as best he could. I should have asked what the provided salsa was supposed to be. I had two plastic squeeze bottles with a small basket of chips. The first bottle I tried tasted like canned crushed tomatoes. No other flavor of any kind. The second bottle tasted like oil and chili flakes. I'm not sure if I was supposed to mix my own salsa to my liking, but I couldn't get anything edible out of either bottle. My "dip" came out about 90 seconds before my entree, which was about three minutes after I ordered. I knew with service that fast I wasn't getting anything fresh. If you have ever watched an episode where Gordon Ramsey spits food in his napkin and sends it back to the kitchen, that is what I felt like. I kept looking around and wondering if any of the other happy patrons were eating food prepared at the same place I was. The dip was horrendous. I could not eat it, for it tasted of straight vomit, and had a gritty consistency. I don't know if it was leftovers from the weekend and half spoiled, or the recipe was just that bad, but it was not edible. My entree was heavily microwaved, as everything was piping hot, and mushy. The "pork steak" was straight canned dog food, chunks of a tough, chewy meat like substance that were dry and overcooked, and defiantly not slow cooked or braised or whatever the description was. It was slathered in crushed tomatoes, you could taste were fresh out of the can and thrown onto the plate and microwaved. There was no combining of the flavors, as you would expect from meat that was cooked and served in the same sauce. The "sauce" was luke-warm, like it was cold then thrown into the microwave. The beans and rice were the highlight of the entree, even being mushy from the microwave. I take that back, I ordered a side salad that was excellent. Some spinach, chopped iceberg lettuce, chopped tomatoes, and some shredded cheese made the best thing I ate that night. The waiter was so nice I couldn't tell him how AWFUL the food was and how my gut hurt already. The good news is I went back to my hotel room and didn't need to turn on the TV for entertainment. I laid and listened to my bowels make noises I have never heard them make before. Pretty sure that is the closest I have come to experiencing what a pregnant woman feels like with a baby moving around inside her. You know what happened at the end of the night, I'll spare you the details there. You couldn't pay me to eat here again. I'm sure I just got the wrong dish on the wrong night, but it is easily the worst restaurant experience I...
Read moreWe arrived here road weary on our trip back to Texas, five minutes before closing. They could have easily shooed us away, but we were welcomed in and given a table. The inside was clean and warm, there was snow on the roads in town.
The waitress was very friendly making us feel welcome. I ordered a diet pepsi, and my wife and daughter drank water. The chips came out and were crispy and not greasy and soggy, a big plus in my book. Two salsas came to the table, a "spicy" salsa, and a non-spicy salsa. In mexican restaurants in Texas salsa burns off your lips, and thats the not spicy salsa. Both of the salsas that came to the table were very mild, but delicious nonetheless.
I ordered a smothered sancho, my wife ordered a plate with a cheese enchilada and a taco, and my daughter ordered a chicken quesadilla. The food came out quickly and was hot. The smothered sancho was pretty good. The white queso was delicious, the ground beef inside was okay and could have used more seasoning. My daughter enjoyed the quesadilla, and called it a meatadilla as it was 90 percent meat and 10 percent cheese. My wife enjoyed her enchilada plate.
We all ordered rice and beans for the sides. The beans had a good texture, a fine mixture of ground beans and whole beans. The rice was good and not dry.
Throughout the whole meal, the waittess was friendly and attentive making sure we received everything we needed.
The ultimate test for the cleanliness of any restaurant is how clean they keep the restrooms. These restrooms were very clean with no lingering odor, they were well kept.
Overall this is a good place to eat. We travel through Kansas a couple times a year and will put La Casita on our list of places to stop. Granted it isn't the spicy Tex-Mex we have here in Texas, but it is good and clean, with friendly,...
Read moreWe were craving some Mexican food and the place we had chosen was closed for dining so we looked up this place and gave it a shot. Sooooooooo glad we did!!! We were greeted promptly, seated promptly, and able to order promptly. We told the hostess this was our 1st time and she graciously welcomed us and informed us that we were able to get a free queso! (YESSSS) That was important to me because she didn't necessarily have to tell us that because we didn't know any different. I don't know what that queso had in it, but I want some RIGHT NOW as I type lol ANNNND the CHIPS...I think they are now the best chips that I personally have had. The beans that came with the Chimichanga meal was GREAT and flavorful, the rice was a tad dry and a little under seasoned, and the chimichanga was DELISH with alllll of the cheese and you could really taste the pecan in the meat. The grand finale was the fried ice cream y'all. Anyone that desires a good dessert especially if they have never had fried ice cream, don't even go if you don't try it. Seriously....WHOAAAAA lol. I'm in love and if I am EVER in this area again I most CERTAINLY will...
