Review – LA Murph’s
Today, I visited LA Murph’s in Salisbury NC to purchase a few assorted desserts for a dinner party I am to attend this evening. Anyone who visits LA Murph’s can appreciate the pricey nature of both food and desserts. It is quality food packaged nicely. With that said, I have no problem paying for what I want, but I would prefer my experience to be one that is warm and pleasant with appropriate exchanges as in a typical “good customer service” atmosphere.
In my past visits to LA Murph’s, I have experienced what I would refer to as “snobby” attitudes by some of the staff. I have noticed on multiple occasions that they (the staff) are more accommodating to the customers who appear to be what I would refer to as “regulars”. As a Salisbury native, I understand that the more affluent areas of our community may be the only entity that can sustain a small business such as LA Murph’s. Therefore, staff may be much more eager to assist these individuals for this reason. It is obvious that this is occurring at LA Murph’s. During the time I was attempting to purchase desserts, 3 other customers where assisted … all of which seemed to have a developed rapport with 2 staff members. While the third staff member was attending to the salad case, she recognized that while she spoke to me, she had not offered to help me. I told her I would like to purchase an assortment of desserts and typically these are placed in a pie box. She retrieved what appeared to be a pound cake box. I told her I didn’t need that large box and not to waste it for just a few desserts … that a smaller box would suffice. She then told me “I don’t care what box you want, it ain’t my box”. At that point, while others watched, she became visibly annoyed and went to exchange the box. Conversation between staff members was suggested that I could not figure out what “damn box she wants”. This was uncomfortable to me and another customer who looked at me in disbelief. Needless to say, I left there with no desserts vowing never to...

My mother and I have been coming to this restaurant for years. The food has never been out of this world, but it was decent and the service I’ve received had been pretty good and it’s always a convenient place to get lunch.
But this afternoon, I had an absolutely horrendous experience, and I will never be returning or spending my hard earned money at this establishment. While sitting in my car in the parking lot of the establishment and finishing up my lunch, (that I just purchased from them through the drive through window) when I was approached by an older man and a younger woman (who had an apron on and who had clearly came from inside the restaurant ) and he very rudely asked me and I quote “WHAT I WAS DOING IN HIS PARKING LOT??”.
I was completely shocked and caught off guard and asked him what he meant and told him I am a customer and I was just finishing up my lunch. He continued to be rude to me even after finding out I was a customer and then proceeded to ask me condescendingly, “How should I be talking to you?” Refusing to go back-and-forth and feeling extremely uncomfortable and not safe, I just pulled off.
I immediately called the restaurant and spoke to the owner who did apologize but at the same time gave excuses to why I was treated the way I was. So to me, those “apologies” fell short.
This encounter to me can’t help but seem racially motivated. There was no reason to approach me that way or treat me that way. It’s broad daylight, I’m sitting in my car, minding my business and eating. AND IM A CUSTOMER!!
EXTREMELY RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL!!! And there’s absolutely no excuse for treating anyone that way, especially a...
Read moreWell I do hate to leave a bad review. I have been watching all the post of rave reviews so we went for a visit. 1st, service was fairly quick. 2nd, customer service could used some training in friendliness. 3rd, prices outrages. I don’t mind paying extra money for great service and great food. When I pay for mediocre food and not so friendly service I’m not very happy. Lasagna was mostly hamburger that minus sauce and seasoning it had just a hint of scorching that gave it a bitter taste. My quiche was supposed to be artichoke and Swiss. While it wasn’t terribly bad it wasn’t terribly good either. I never saw an artichoke or tasted it. It was more a mushroom quiche. Green pea salad was two table spoons or less. Chocolate chess pie would have been good if the pie crust didn’t taste freezer burnt. Over all everything had this same refrigerated flavor as being refrigerated with multiple things. I can’t even explain that. My husband said it all had a packaging taste. We both ate 1/2 of each thing and tossed the rest in the trash. Maybe we came on an off day or wrong time. Almost $40 and feel slightly robbed of a good meal. Also got two large teas. I’m not sure how you mess tea up. It just wasn’t right. I hate pointing out things like this when to majority of people leave good reviews. After reading the bad reviews verses the good ones it seems there is a problem with friendliness. I can not say I would go back and I definitely couldn’t refer. The more I think about it, it’s more like the food just wasn’t fresh. I did not eat any of the desserts except as stated. So I...
