Golden Corral Buffet & Grill — Restaurant in San Angelo

First I must say the staff at Golden Corral has always been very polite and attentive to customers needs. To say the least we have been going to this particular location in San Angelo since moving here. However a few months back there were a couple of times that my wife and felt that the quality of food was not up to par. In writing in their app to corporate office I brought these issues up and was very impressed on how quickly they responded. Encouraging us to try them again after addressing the issues and why this five star rating. Becuse how often do you hear of a corporate office responding and actually caring for their customers, seeing to it that these issues were addressed? Nevertheless, during our visit the food was fresh and well maintained. The catfish in my personal opinion is to die for. The best in town as far as I am concerned along with all the side dishes as well. The steak and ribs are great, having as well usually two to three typs of chicken available. We also went for breakfast one Saturday. The made to order omlet is excellent along with everything one could imagine for breakfast, they had it. The building was over crowded. Customers were standing around waiting for a seat. Tables were left dirty for long periods of time. Our waitress (Nicole) stayed on top of her area and kept her area clean and took very good care of her patrons. Her coworkers were dirty looking. The employees gathered in the dining area and conversed with each other so loud, customers had no choice but to stop their conversations. On two different occasions two different employees accepted visitors and allowed them behind food counters. Not only were they allowed in what should be restricted areas, the visitors were loud and very distracting, taking much attention away from the patrons. I have no complaints with the food. The floors were dirty. The plates, the silverware, as well as the bathrooms were visibly soiled. When we were leaving the building, we were met with clouds of cigarette smoke. Three employees and a friend were taking a smoke break less than 3 feet from the entrance. Keep in mind my 10 year old is a brittle asthmatic and is allergic to smoke. Much needed time with family we decided to come to Golden Corral for lunch. The steak was amazing and cooked Med. Rare just like I asked. Laura our server was prompt to greet us verify our drinks and confirm 4 at our table. Drinks, silverware and a friendly smile were back at our table before we were back with our food. Yes our food was good but this review is mainly about Laura. She has been a server for over 30 years at Golden Corral, and you can tell its because she loves her job and working with people! She is nice and polite, efficient, and on top of it. One of our family members literally drinks like a camel and not one time did her cup get below half empty before Laura was back with a fresh glass of water for her. Our whole experience with Laura was this way. Nothing but smiles (behind her mask) and polite conversation and anything we needed we had.
