Cootey's Tavern — Restaurant in San Antonio

This bar is very close to Home2Suites near the airport, so I could walk there. And I’m glad I did! The bartenders were all hard workers and really cool. Meg, the daytime bartender, was a particular favorite. Drinks were prepared exactly as requested. Atmosphere and decor is reminiscent of an Irish pub (I think it’s even described as an Irish pub in some postings), but it’s not. Guiness and Tulamore Dew are the closest items to it being a pub. The pictures on the wall are of cowboy and old western themes, there is a sitting area outside, and there is a corner in the bar with Victorian and leather couches and chairs. Everything else is solid wood tables, chairs, and barstools. So very eclectic, but it works. The patrons are as eclectic as the surroundings. I went on karaoke night (Wednesday) and dart night on Thursday. Wednesday brought in an older crowd at about 7 pm. As the evening progressed, the customer base skewed younger and younger. On Thursday, this place was packed by 530 pm. It had blue collar, white collar, regulars, military members, retirees, etc. and everyone was so cool and nice. This is exactly what I look for in a great bar. They have plenty of tvs for sports fans. A great jukebox. Pool table and electronic dart boards. Super friendly patrons and workers. And the prices were very reasonable They do serve bar type food, and have daily food and drink specials I did not eat, but the dishes that I saw looked very good. love my first visit...on my visit the crowd was more a thirty plus crowd of casually dressed folk chattering and doing aTrivia game ... for a dive bar the clientele is classy I heard NOT one 'CUSS "word all nite ... very impressive in my opinion since many a dive place have conversations ringing with cussing every third word or perhaps vape smoking inside ... you got a lady into dive bars and her vocabulary is not seasoned like a soldier take her here.. the food is awesome and atmoshere has a 'CHEERS " vibe and your wallet can be generous without being broke till pay day......the beer was chilled perfectly and the staff is friendly but when the place is humming they are a working ...I have found a new dive bar home... .I want to try the wings they were seriously meaty and big sized looking and the bar has a six dollar hamburger special that my tastebuds say try,,, this girl loved their Tacos and that is a compliment because MY Tias made the...

I really enjoy going to Cooties! Besides the fact that I know several of the regulars there, and the staff is very friendly, it just has a very cozy feel! There is pool, darts, shuffleboard, bar-top computer games, TVs , a jukebox... the only thing it's missing now that I REALLY regret them not having anymore is Buzztime Trivia! If they brought that back, we'd probably start going again way more often! But other than that, Cooties has sentimental value to me... so I really don't have anything negative to say. I would recommend it for sure... Especially since they also have a small food menu with appetizers, pizza and burgers... which is great for when you get hungry after having a few cocktails.
