Hampton Inn Hotels usually provide me with this feeling of comfort, and coziness that I look forward to on my vacations. This particular one did not do that for me. If you can, pay a few dollars more and choose a different location. (There is no view of the airport from the room windows)
The Bad: This hotel in need of a good cleaning and is in desperate need of some updates. I would venture to say it almost felt like a motel based on the outdated rooms.
I did not get what I paid for when it came to the room. Although we paid for a 2-queen bed room, the beds provided were at best full-sized. No mini fridge or microwave were provided, which isn’t the worst thing in the world, but again, updating the rooms would most likely have these details available to make your stay a bit better. Parents appreciate having somewhere to keep cold drinks and heat up a snack for our kids throughout our stay.
The carpets in the room felt worn and hard and needed a good cleaning.
Only certain Ice-makers work so we found ourselves going to a different floor to get ice.
The information provided for the Hotel (TV Guide, laundry room location, ice maker locations) are either outdated, or non-existing. I spent the better portion of our first night attempting to figure out what channels were available. This may seem like an exaggeration, however those of us with kids appreciate knowing exactly what channel to go to in order to put on cartoons to distract the kids while we settle in. In addition, up until the last night of our stay we were made aware of the laundry room which could have been helpful information from the start of our stay, had it been provided.
There is no hot tub even though it is promoted on their website. Again, not the biggest issue in the world, but the “details” start adding up. Additionally, the pool is outdated (as previously mentioned for the entirety of the building), and towels were not kept stocked.
The Good: The breakfast provided was up to parr with other Hampton Inn’s and the staff were nice and helpful when needed. A certain staff member went out of her way to come and speak to us doing breakfast and provided my kids with coloring materials. This was a very nice gesture, and great service.
Location is in a good spot to get directly onto the Highway, and a mile away from a Walmart (which is convenient for parents).
Although outdated, the...
Read moreMy husband & I had an excellent stay at this Hampton Inn! When I read some other people’s negative reviews, it feels like we’re talking about different hotels! We were in San Antonio (my first time) for the Final Four. Riverwalk hotel rates were so high, we decided to save money by staying near the airport & paying for Lyfts to & from the Alamodome, Riverwalk, & other tourist attractions. Such an amazing city! Kudos to this Hampton Inn’s friendly, caring staff! Emma is a great manager! (I’m sure Dee is, too, but my interactions were with Emma.) Coming from the San Antonio airport, I accidentally left my back cushion (essential, because I have back issues) on the shuttle. When I realized it the next morning, Emma made calls & tracked it down. Within probably 1/2 hour, a male shuttle driver brought it to the hotel lobby. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Emma is the first manager I’ve ever seen walk through the breakfast area & ask people how they were, if she could be helpful, etc. I saw, when a woman moved her breakfast plate from one table to another, Emma offer to carry the woman’s juice cup, & do so. Kudos also to breakfast workers Jessica & Lupe. They made sure that there were good supplies for us guests, whether it was food items or plastic utensils. They’re hard workers, especially having to get up so early to have breakfast ready at 6 a.m. Jessica was especially pleasant/cheerful. When she & Lupe worked together, it was a nice start to my morning to see & hear their camaraderie. The shuttle drivers were great, from the young woman with a newsboy hat Friday night, to the man or men who returned my aforementioned back cushion, to the friendly woman named Charlie this morning. I’m sure the maids are great, too, but we only needed clean towels during our 5-day stay, not cleaning or bed-making. The breakfasts exceeded my expectations, with ample opportunities for protein: scrambled eggs or pre-made little omelettes; pork or chicken sausage; maybe biscuits with sausage gravy; boiled eggs; yogurt; homemade oatmeal (not packets); besides waffles, bagels, toast, etc. True, there’s no microwave or fridge in the room, but one can use a communal microwave. There is a bowl of apples, maybe bananas. If we’re able to return to San Antonio, I’d happily stay at this Hampton Inn in...
Read moreMy recent stay at Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio-Airport left much to be desired, despite a few redeeming qualities.
Let's start with the positives. Undoubtedly, the staff here are incredibly friendly and welcoming. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. Moreover, the lobby itself was immaculately clean, reflecting a commitment to maintaining a pleasant atmosphere for guests upon arrival.
However, the charm quickly faded as I made my way to my room. It became evident that the standards set by the lobby did not extend throughout the entire hotel. Upon entering my room, I was met with a series of disappointments.
Firstly, it was disconcerting to find that all the cabinets and drawers were left open, including the mirrored closet door. This lack of attention to detail created an immediate sense of discomfort and disarray. Furthermore, the sliding shower door was faulty, refusing to close properly and repeatedly interrupting my shower. The loose toilet seat only added to the list of maintenance issues that need urgent attention.
Additionally, the absence of a fridge in the room was inconvenient, especially for guests who wish to keep their drinks cold during their stay. The condition of the carpet was also concerning, as my house shoes inexplicably began sticking to it despite being clean and worn exclusively indoors.
The air conditioning unit, though present, seemed to belong to another era, struggling to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room. Its inefficiency compounded the discomfort of an already disappointing experience. While the bed was passable by hotel standards, it fell short of providing the level of comfort one would expect during a stay.
Overall, my experience at Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio-Airport left much to be desired. If not for the exhaustion from a day of travel, I would have considered switching hotels. However, given my past experiences in less-than-ideal conditions, I persevered through the night.
In conclusion, while the friendly staff and clean lobby are commendable, they do little to compensate for the numerous shortcomings encountered during my stay. For those considering accommodation at Hampton Inn & Suites San Antonio-Airport, I would advise managing expectations...
