The band was pretty good, kept the vibe going even though there wasn't a big crowd... I love the giant jenga outside too...
The new bouncer/barback/security/bartender in training guy was a little invasive...first he was standing right over my shoulder at goldenteegolf, I thorought he was a customer at first...
Then I went outside and he was like right a foot may be trying to talk to me and I was smoking a cigarette, telling me nickname is red or I can call him Canelo, which means cinnamon and she kind of looks like the boxer Canelo Alvarez, I was like okay, trying to find the people I was with and he's like oh I don't know... So I went out front and he was telling me all of his multiple assignments he has it this shenanigans, so I said to him, shenanygans doesn't card at the door? And when I said that two people just walked in the door and he says oh yes I do and so the next couple that was walking up to the front door was a nice looking black couple probably in their early 40s and he walks up to them and cards them... Now I'm white, and he's white and the couple first went in were white and then he cards the black couple... I was embarrassed and turned around and walked off... I cannot believe that I had for the first time seen first hand this white guy, and granite it was merely timing that nice black couple walked in after the white couple did when I had mentioned that... But I felt like he should not have card it anyone unless you was carting everyone because that was the only people I've seen him card the entire night... And I know he only did it because I question whether or not Shenanigans usually cards at the door... he was not professional courteous methodical are in any manner, he's inexperienced ignorant, and should not be roaming around a bar telling his life story and trying to make friends with customers if he's supposed to be watching the back to the bar watching the door instead of talking with customers and randomly throwing in a ID check... and his intent was not to racially discriminate, I'm starting his intent was tun impress me apparently and I found it very unruly... I wouldn't return to that bar if you was the bartender or the doorman he's a fish out of water there with no idea what his position is. But other than that I'd say it's the 3rd or 4th best shenanygans out of three or four...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy friend and I went to a Paint Nite event and this was the venue. Didn't know the event would be at a loud bar, but the host (unaffiliated with Dive) made it fun anyway. We ordered water with 2 orders of chicken wings and truffle fries. Only 6 wings came in an order so we thought it'd be a small snack and it wouldn't cost much. It was my fault for not asking since their menu didn't list the prices, but was stunned to get a bill for $55. No itemized bill, just that total with the option of leaving a tip. 12 wings and fries cost that??? I suspect they leave off prices off their menu because they count on their customers being too drunk to care any way. I asked for the itemized receipt and it's $14.99 per 6 wings and $9.99 for the truffle fries. They charge you almost $2 to pay with your card and they tacked on an extra $8 gratuity! I was going to tip any way, but they took out an amount THEY chose and was sneaky about the payment so I'd accidentally tip more. Like I said, they probably count on people being too drunk to notice so they pull that garbage to see if they can get away with it. There was zero interaction with the waitress minus her bringing the food so I would've tipped but that didn't warrant $8 for the little food we got. It was tasty, I will give it that, but would've never paid that. Again, that was my fault for not asking when the prices weren't on the menu. That was a missed red flag on my part. Now we know this place exists and will ensure to avoid it....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFriday specials include $7.50 specialty drinks and $2.00 drafts. They have a decent selection of drafts - ended up having a pint of Karbach Love Street. Definitely got some sour notes and the aroma was a little off-putting which is indicative of dirty lines. I'd recommend sticking to bottled beer or liquor.
Service was virtually non-existent. Our waitress came over three times during the 4.5 hours my party was there. Once to bum a cigarette, and once to close us out because her shift was ending. The patio has a bar that one of my friends tried to order from and the dude out there who was running the bar was not friendly at all.
The food was not very good and extremely expensive for what it is. $25 for a sampler platter, $16 for trash can nachos. I wouldn't mind paying these prices if the food warranted the cost... but in the case of DIVE, it just doesn't.
They also have an identity problem. I could see this place having some success with the right tweaks to pricing and customer service, but at one point during the night, they started blaring the music as if they were trying to be a night club. I didn't see anybody dancing and having to yell at the top of your lungs just so the person next to you can hear you isn't what I'd call the best ambiance for a dive bar. I was a bartender at a dive bar throughout most of my 20's. People come to dives for the character, ambiance, and friendly atmosphere. DIVE has literally none of...
