Let me start with this, the bar is beautiful. There was a lot of money put into this place.
Was recommended to us on our trip so we stopped in. My boyfriend and I have both worked 10+ years behind bars making classic cocktails. I don’t often order cocktails but all their wine is by the bottle other than the house wine. Ordered a Ketel One martini, out of Ketel One, no problem, out of olive brine, that’s ok switched to gin, martini was fine. Boyfriend ordered a Corpse Rev. No 2. Again neither of us go for cocktails because we tend to be picky, we just want the cocktail as it’s stated. This was undrinkable. I think that’s for any palate. Far too much lemon. I ordered 6 oysters they were delightful asked for silverware or a small fork and received a plate and a napkin so I asked again for a fork. Mind you there was 5 staff members behind the bar this evening and probably 20 ppl total in the establishment. Boyfriend ordered a beer instead of drinking the cocktail and no one mentioned anything no one asked about the drink nothing. Lol. A random guy from a table ordered a drink next to us and then returned to his table, the bartender asked if it was going on our tab? I said no he’s not with us. She sat the drink on the bar top and it wasn’t touched. Finally one of the bartenders approached the table asking if they wanted something else and the guy expressed that he ordered a drink already that had then been sitting next to us for 10+ minutes.
Asked for the check it was $43 which is pretty inexpensive for two cocktails a beer and six oysters but I wasn’t given an itemized receipt so I have no clue what I was charged for.
This place has amazing potential, the owner knows what they’re doing but the staff needs to step it up.
There was one bartender with a well groomed mullet who seemed like he knew what he was doing.
Oh and the young couple next to us continuously smoked a vape at the bar and no one said anything, probably because the bartender was smoking one as well. Not sure if that’s allowed in Texas or what but it’s frustrating when the last thing you want to smell is someone’s cotton...
Read moreDouble Standard used to be really good. I don't know what changed with their "standard", but their burgers went up in price and the quality of the meat, buns, and fries declined significantly.
We went there during a slow time this past Saturday with hardly anyone else in the restaurant. All of our food items (burgers, fries, oysters, salads, appetizers) were brought out individually about 10 minutes apart or more. We had to eat one thing at a time, as a group. We all got sick from our stomachs.
Double Standard used to be a really chill spot with decent service and great food. It's just gone downhill. I can't bring myself to ever go to Double Standard again. They've lost 4 customers and I won't ever recommend this place to anyone until these people do some sort of quality check. Unacceptable.
*Edit: While I appreciate the email from the owner after this review, I do not appreciate the attempt to shift the blame back on my group. This was part of his response: "While we investigate your concerns thoroughly, I would also recommend considering the possibility of factors outside our control, such as other sources of food or beverage that might have contributed."
For clarity, my group did not have anything to eat/drink prior to arriving at this establishment. We woke up late, headed to Hopscotch for a double date, and had our first drinks/meals here. We fell ill a short while after we got back...
Read moreIf I could give this place a negative zero, I would certainly do so. Went for a quick drink and watch a game and upon ordering a few old fashions ($16) we asked bartender/manager what he recommended. Was rude and didn’t have any suggestions but basically wanted us to hurry up and order so he could do something else. Drinks were mediocre at best and he ruined entire vibe of the place. No waiters so you stand at bar to order. Pulled up to a table where the restaurant had the chairs placed and same guy who “said” he was manager told us it was a fire hazard and to move very rudely. We apologized and said all you had to do was ask as we were taken back by his attitude then he proceeded to snatch our drinks we paid for and say we needed to leave. We did absolutely nothing. This guy was completely out of line and rude. We will never attend this establishment again and I highly suggest you don’t either. This was the night of May 15th and manager was white guy with blonde hair. Anthony was his name and needs to do better. He absolutely killed the vibe to this place and as a business owner I would not want him representing my brand. If owner reads this, know we plan on spreading the word and if one person changes their mind on coming here, this review was a success. This one manager/bartender is ruining you clientele and the atmosphere of this...
