Arriving to the hotel, we were greeted by valet and they are nice to work with. The valet process is extremely simple and timely. I believe they park they vehicles in the Rand Garage on the same street as the hotel. I felt like my vehicle would be in safe condition and guarded in the right hands and it was. The check-in process was simple and easy. Greeted by friendly smiles, we were able to get up to our room in no time.
The bed was extremely comfortable and passed the bed-dive test. This was a real place of comfort. The blankets were that kind of heavy material, so it felt nice to be under the covers and laying on some extremely comfortable pillows. The room had a decent office space area for me to work from the hotel room. The TVs in the hotel room can't be switched to HDMI so that was a small comfort I didn't have but it was easily fixed with access to one of the boardrooms that offers additional workspace with HDMI capabilities. Back to the rooms, the restroom was nice because of the waterfall showerhead but also because they had full size shampoo-conditioner-body wash. First time I had ever seen that in a hotel. ++ for those wanting to preserve space in their bags. Also has a nice quality blow-dryer and the light off the mirror is very strong ++. Additional positives about the room are number of outlets and USB ports.
Moving to the open spaces of the hotel, the lobby is beyond aesthetic. The bar presentation is beautifully laid out and the bartenders are eager to serve you a fine drink.
The breakfast was an interesting one for sure but understand that the European style presented is an AC by Marriott signature; they had a small assortment of meats and cheeses, cantaloupe, hard-boiled eggs, cereals, granolas, yogurts, milks, croissants and other pastries, two different coffee stations, and a small al la carte menu. The plates were a bit pricy, and occupants might find somewhere else to go for something heartier. I actually digested a lot of the food pyramid so not that bad for me but I'm also a light breakfast eater. This would be the only reason 1 star was taken off. The criteria being will the food fill me and the 200lb husband? and will it hold me and the 200lb husband for a few hours?
They have a motion room with quality gym equipment and great views: Main Plaza, San Fernando Cathedral, and the Bexar County Courthouse. They have ellipticals, a row machine, 2 pelotons, treadmills, dumbbells, weights, resistance bands, a boxing bag, and two TV's. The gym also has a single restroom/shower.
More open spaces in the hotel are on the second floor with the Element Boardroom that I mentioned earlier. The only one I used had different lighting options for presentations, HDMI capability, and plenty of outlets. The open area outside the boardroom is perfect for people needing some quiet time, studying, homework, and preparations for a meeting.
There was some construction going on in the area, so some minor noises were expected, and we were quite alright with it. We were told the Winston 1 rooftop bar with amazing views, will open December 9th so we're looking forward to returning for the grand opening. With a sneak preview and some insights of what the bar looks like, I would highly recommend planning a visit to the bar. There will be a street-level elevator that takes the public directly to the roof.
I had an amazing stay. I enjoyed the atmosphere; positivity was radiating through everyone. Everything was clean and the service was great. I did not experience anything creepy about this hotel nor did I experience bad...
Read moreThe hotel is located at Soledad which is close to the Riverwalk. It's location was perfect for us as it was on the right side where there are a lot of Riverwalk restaurants but in a quiet area.
The room was clean with good amenities. They had a One Cup Coffee Brewer. There is no kettle to boil water though. There is a mini fridge with complementary water. On the floor, there is a hydration area where you can get water or ice. I thought that was convenient. They also had an iron and a small ironing board (it is one of those you can place on a flat surface like the bed). I am guessing it is because we were in an accessible room.
The bathroom had plenty of rails for support and had a low profile bath tub. The toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were in these large plastic bottles for reusability. But their housekeeping did not even fill it up before we got our room and the shampoo was empty after one use and the shower gel was empty after two uses. They should always check if there is enough for new check ins. I am not a big fan of opaque bottles for that reason.
The service was a mixed bag. Upon check in, they said the room we booked (a king room) was not available as they had overbooked. It was only when we said that's not acceptable that they gave us an accessible king room. I don't understand hotels overbooking!
For breakfast, we were there when it was transitioning. In the beginning, they had a mixed continental and a bit of hot food like porridge/oatmeal, scrambled eggs, bacon, and fried potatoes. You can also order some made to order (they were Belgian waffles and a scrambled egg with prosciutto on toast). By the end of our stay, they had gone away with the scrambled eggs, bacon, and fried potatoes. You had to order the porridge as well. They replaced the hot food with some quiche/egg bites but they were nearly cold even with the hot plate. You can also order those made to order items. They said it was to align with the Marriott standard. For us, it was a disappointing change and not worth the 18 dollars as they didn't have enough of the cold meats, fruits, or bread to consider them as continental (or European as that is how they called it). There is coffee and decaf along with hot water (if you want tea). They also had dairy (whole and half and half) and non-dairy options for the milk (they had soya and oat milk but ended up with oat and almond milk for the non-dairy). Breakfast service was great with Gaby but non existent when it wasn't her.
As mentioned, it was a mixed bag...
Read moreI base a lot of my stays on reviews so here’s my full and honest review.
Parking:
When we first got there we didn’t want to pay $49 for valet for each day we were staying, so we parked our car right next to the hotel which turns out is the same place valet parks. We paid $64.96 for 2 overnights and if you want to leave and come back as many times as you want you just scan the barcode on your ticket each time.
Checking in:
When we were checking in it took about 10 minutes because they could confirm with housekeeping if our room was ready. We checked in online for it to be ready by 4 so it was a little annoying since we just wanted to lay down after a 5 hr drive. But the girl I’m the front desk was so sweet so we didn’t mind waiting.
Rooms:
Now the room is nice only cons I would say is:
Now here is where my stars went down to a 4.
Checking out & Breakfast:
Checking out was smooth sailing but the front desk offered us breakfast before heading out so we go and there’s literally barely anything left and we checked the time and we were a few minutes after breakfast being “over” so we weren’t expecting a whole lot. Me and my husband got a churro that was left and was cold, watered down iced coffee, bacon CRUMBS, and some cold eggs. So when we go to leave after a very sad breakfast we are hit with a bill of almost $40. We weren’t told we had to pay for breakfast and I couldn’t even bring it up because I was in shock of how we have to pay almost $40 for what looked like leftover crumbs of a breakfast.
*when checking in the hotel did charge our card $200...
