Einstein Bros. Bagels — Restaurant in San Antonio

First of all, I’m from Denver. We have EBB everywhere and love it! When we moved here, I was sad to learn of the single location off DeZavala. I had an appointment near the medical center and got done early. So I met up with a friend and saw this location was close.

We arrived close to 9:30am and there were very few bagels to choose from. The place was pretty empty but was dirty. There were three employees working. One lady took our order, but when went to pay at the next register we had to wait about 5 minutes because the cashier was making a drink for another customer. Then when she was done, she said “oh sorry, can I just cash him out real quick”. Of course we said yes....

It took quite a bit for us to get our order, probably about 15 min. It wasn’t that complicated.... b

The icing on the cake was when we were leaving. Two customers were at the counter. Waiting to pay. One lady, who I think was the manager, cashed the out. Another lady was at the coffee station working on their order, and a gentleman was working on the food order. I walked up to the coffee bar to get a bag for an uneaten bagel. I saw the lady, who I presumed to be the manager look at me three times.... and I know the other two saw me as well. A fourth worker, who had obviously had just clocked out, walked right past me. The manager said something to him, looked at me and walked to the back. I waited patiently for over 7 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. Finally, the gentleman working on the food order finished up and walked over to see if I needed something.

I was going to purchase a bagel box to take home to my husband and kids, but decided not to. I was very sad as I love EBB. Rude and unprofessional staff....

I've been consistently disappointed. I've been here three times and never managed to get what I wanted. The first time I went in, I asked for a chicken apple sausage bagel dog, but they were all out. I got an asiago bagel dog instead, which they pulled pre-made out of a wrapper and put in a microwave for a few seconds, and it tasted just as great as you would expect microwaved bread to be. The second time, I tried to get another chicken apple sausage bagel dog -- still out, I got pizza bagels instead. They were decent, at least.

The third time sealed the deal, though. I asked for a chicken apple sausage bagel dog again, and -- seeing a pattern yet? -- they were still all out. I looked over the menu and saw a chipotle turkey wrap, which looked decent; the menu said it had turkey, corn, black beans, cheddar, pepper jack cheese, and a jalapeno shmear. The lack of actual chipotles seemed strange, but I ordered one to go, and a few minutes later they gave me a bag and I walked off with it. I later opened it up to discover that the wrap was also packed with chopped lettuce, tomatoes, and onions -- I'm not a big fan of lettuce and tomatoes, and I can't stand onions. I guess I should have known better and should have asked if there was anything else in it, but I guess I just assumed that the menu would list the contents of it.

I'm disappointed enough that I don't think I'll go...

So last year I was told this place was "amazing" by a family friend. My wife and I stopped by for breakfast this morning. We both ordered our sandwiches with extra "shmear" (cream cheese) on both sides of the bagel. After awhile we were told there was no more shmear and they needed to make more. I said that was fine but asked for the sandwhich to be remade if it was going to take awhile because I didn't want a cold sandwich. After awhile later they gave me my order. Cold bagel cold egg cold meat and shmear on 1 side of the bagel. Not wanting to be a total karen and ask to remake the entire order I simply walked up and asked for shmear to be added to the other side of the bagel like I ordered. Straight to my face I was told no. WOW!!!!never again will i wait for a cold sandwhich from here not made to order even when you ask nicely. In case the manager or owner would like to verify the complete lack of service at their business 4/2/2025 830am to 905am I was wearing jeans and a striped polo shirt. After sharing the experience with the friend who recommended the place they told me "ya unfortunately it's really gone downhill we don't eat there any more".

My suggestion is that you take your hard earned money somewhere they won't serve you a cold meal half made. Good luck out...
