Room 120, as always. My wife is handicapped; and every time I reserve a handicapped/accessible room at this Motel 6 we get room 120. We have stayed in this exact same room several times over the past 5 years or so. Not that we asked for it; it's just where we always seem to end up.
It always had something wrong with it; but this stay was most likely the one that will make me decide to stay elsewhere from now on. The location is great for someone who needs to be in the center of the medical center in San Antonio the next morning; but this most recent experience was ridiculous.
As soon as we got to our room we noticed our key card wasn't working. Told the receptionist about it; he used his "master key" and opened the door just fine. That was the start of a 2 hour ordeal; 2 hours that we paid for in sleep. Every single time I had to walk to the car to get another bag (handicapped wife, lots of bags and apparatus) I ran into the door lock issue. The receptionist - helpful as he was! - blamed it on a bad key card, then dead batteries, and a whole bunch of other possible causes ever time I asked him to come open the door. He ultimately changed the batteries (which he had many of in his drawer, as I noticed, but wasn't authorized to use until 2 hours later!) and then finally agreed to my observation that the lock ITSELF didn't work. Somebody would take care of it in the morning, he was told. And that was two hours later, costing us two hours of sleep. And for that I got to pay $70 and change. Outrageous.
Other than that: the window in this room is ALWAYS super dirty. Remember: we have stayed here numerous times; I honestly don't believe it has been cleaned for many years. Sure, it's 20 feet above ground level; but that's what ladders are for, no? Every time we get to stay at room 120 there seems to be another light that's not working. The walls around the shower are crumbling, there are holes in the shower walls themselves, we had to ask for a shower chair (this is FAR from an accessible room) and the shower reeks of MOLD. Oh, and the fan in the restroom doesn't work anymore either. It used to, I know.
Also, would it kill you guys to turn on the AC in time for your guests to arrive? It was super hot on Sunday, and it took hours to cool down...
Other, minor issues: one of the vending machines doesn't take any Dollar bills. Coins only. I had to dump about 2 pounds of coins in that thing just to get 2 snacks...
Fix up this...
Read moreMy best friend & her sister stayed there for about a week. The ac/heater does not work, they had an electric heater, the electric outlets seem to be loose or too big, we plug something & it falls off. The mattresses are so uncomfortable & pillows are a joke, they are so thin you might as well not have 1. The previous motels served coffee 24 hours a day but these people stop at 10am. Their social skills are the worst. I helped my friend take her things to her room, she was stressed & without thinking she lit a cigarette, she caught herself & immediately turned it if, no alarm sounded and the front desk was not close to her room, within a couple of minutes an older man came knocking with a very harsh tone yelling that he was keeping the $50. deposit (the deposit that was not mentioned when she reserved the room over the phone until she was there) because we were smoking in the room, she apologized & showed him the cigarette that was off. I suspect they have a camera because there is no way he smelled that second of cig, if she had given it a few puffs I'd believe it but she didnt.
I will not lie, all 3 of us are smokers, it was very cold so we would go in the car to smoke so our clothes smelled like cigarettes. On about the 2nd or 3rd day I was in the room by myself eating when i heard a knock, it looked like the entire family was at the door, the young man, both his parents & his grandfather were accusing me of smoking, I opened the door all the way & told them to come in & check then to go with me to my car so I can show them my cigarettes cause they were not even in the room. I did get nervous cause they are so rude & yell, my friend had just paid for another day, the owner was threatening to kick them out & keep the $.
Yet they rented a room to 4 drug addicts that were obviously high, I was outside smoking & watching as they checked in, who knows what they did in THAT room, they are probably regulars cause they were in a room in no time.
Believe me, you do NOT want to stay there. Drug addicts are welcomed but smokers are...
Read moreThis hotel is across the street from a major hospital and is the best option for visitors needing to stay close. Iâd rather sleep outside. The hotel smells of mildew in the air. The common areas are hot due to acâs not being ran. I complained the âfreshly cleanedâ room had fecal matter splatters all over the toilet and seat so they gave me the room across from it. The room is burning hot once you enter. The tubs are nasty with bad valves and leaking constant drips 24/7 so it keeps you up. I asked for more towels they stated they had none and laundry was in progress. No coffee is brewed as advertised and the elevator is on its last leg. If you donât care about any of this itâs probably because you live the same way. I understand itâs a budget hotel but if they know their audience across from a major hospital they should do better for visiting families. The clerk was sleep at the front desk once i arrived and that shows they are not up on safety issues. Clerk informed me if the door does not open i need to lift the handle instead of pulling down since it was not working properly. The lights were burned out in the parking lot and they have no security patrols. There are no âdo not disturbâ signs so the cleaner just knocks on your door EARLY to ask if you need anything. I left my room to go back to the hospital where my kid was being cared for and upon my return i noticed all trash was gone, letting me know theyâve entered my room without my knowledge. There are no door signs that inform them you would not liked your room made up / cleaned. The cleaners are the actual owners so it made since why they are so damn cheap. This hotel should be shut down and renovated to cater to visitors and families of like. Iâd recommend staying at another hotel nearby with better amenities, safety and cleanliness. I called the corporate office for motel 6 and they said all issues had to be dealt with within the establishment. The staff is a joke and very unprofessional. I was. VERY unhappy with my stay....
