La Mexicana Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in San Antonio

If I could give this a zero stars I would , I’m a tourist I’m not even from here but me and my husband love Mexican food and we know what’s a good Mexican food , we come from Mexican families and we know what’s authentic Mexican food , so my point is we came here because we love Mexican food and I told my husband I was craving a Caldo de camaron so I search the nearest Mexican cuisine thinking they will have Caldo de camaron which they didn’t had so I had to order a menudo me and my husband both order menudo we was starving already so they brought the menudo and let me tell you it was awful I try menudos before and I can assure you this was not menudo when they brought the plate to us the waitress told us it didn’t had much meat so they will bring the rest in a couple minutes so she basically brought us a bow full of caldo and less maiz and meat on it then she brought the rest ima separate small bowl and let me tell you that menudo didn’t had no flavor it tasted like nothing literally and the meat didn’t look like meat it looked chewy like fake meat or some and the aguas frescos tasted like water more than flavor to it my husband didn’t even finish eating nor me so we decided to get up paid and leave and we left the food there we wasn’t feeling it and we still hungry ! I will not recommend this place at all highly not recommend!!!! They shouldn’t be open or having a business the food is so awful by the way I never leave reviews but my husband was like check the reviews after we left the spot and coke to find out it was awful reviews I will start checking reviews!! 2024 October 5 The older cashier was openly hostile to customers with apparent disabilities and refused to take an order. But the younger cashier stepped up, was very friendly and fluent in both Spanish and English. She said for years she worked in another restaurant where the cash register was not electronic at all and so this was a big change for her. This restaurant has electronic payment system in restaurant that is the same brand as on its website. It seems the owners have invested in the latest technology for payments. The cook sang so loudly everyone in the restaurant could hear him from the kitchen. He seemed purposefully to be trying to lighten the atmosphere in restaurant. Unfortunately his singing was much better than cooking. Nopales a la Mexicana tacos were so salty that the food flavors could not be tasted. The cook did not use fresh cactus but burned cactus and then placed a PACKET OF SALT inside each taco. The corn tortillas were sweet like cake. So disappointing to find this restaurant sweetening tortillas, which obscures pepper heat--if anything but salt could be tasted. I do not usually write a review of a restaurant until I have been there 10-30:times in different seasons. But I am writing this after only one visit because I hope never to return. SHADY RESTAURANT!!!!

I arrived there during the lunch special hours from 11am-2pm. However, a server never came around to take my order. I moved to a different table and someone finally came to take my order 10 minutes later. When I went to pay for my lunch special the cashier told me that because the server didn’t enter my order tiill after 2pm I would have to pay the full price. I asked her “are you saying I don’t get the lunch special price because no one ever came to take my order” . Basically the answer was yes. I waited as they spoke on Spanish to see if they would charge me at lunch special price but I don’t think anyone knew how to adjust the price. There’s no manager there to help out in these situations. So I had to pay. When I was leaving I received a notification a credit card transaction which was $3 more than what I paid. I went back to cashier and she accidentally charged me an additional tip which she never told me about when I was at the register. They had to refund me the tip overcharge in cash.
