To all the âbread-iesâ out there, is there anything better than a perfectly proved and baked sourdough roll? Just the right amount of sourness balanced by sweet carbohydrate bliss, all packaged in a golden brown crust. (Not to mention, itâs a roll, which means no sharing required!)
You can imagine my excitement when I discovered Concha Bread at The Pearl Farmers Market, sourdough rolls sitting pretty on the stall table as Marcos greeted me with a friendly smile. Like a tractor beam, the rolls acquired their target and sucked me right in - I didnât even fight it.
Once purchased, my interest in the rest of the market curiously faded, and I raced home to shamelessly rip the plastic packaging apart. There would be no survivors.
I should warn you, though; the emotional high of tearing into that first roll was a cruel prank, for as I swallowed the last bite of the 8 packaged rolls, I suddenly knew true heartache.
I now sometimes think about them when Iâm walking, showering, driving to work, or kissing my girlfriend.
To be honest, Iâve been distracted by them. Life without the rolls just seems flat, boring, mild - certainly not sour.
Yes, Iâve tried to move on, trudging through supermarkets, unimpressed by the bakeryâs attempts to seduce me with words like âartisanâ and âseasonal.â But after eating Concha Styleâs sourdough rolls, other breads just donât look the same. I even tried sour candies, hoping the processed sugar would fill the roll-shaped hole in my heart. But they didnât - they were too small.
My only recourse now is a weekly visit to the Farmerâs Market, stockpiling as much bread as my arms can carry (Concha Style likely has other locations/opportunities for purchase). And the good news is there is plenty to go around, so I highly recommend you check them out.
Just know, youâve been warned about their irresistible nature.

I was genuinely disappointed with my purchase, especially considering I spent over $50 on a few loaves of bread. The conchas were a real letdown, not sweet, not soft, and far from what you'd expect from a traditional recipe. If you're going for a different style, that's totally fine, but don't label them as conchas or shape them like the real thing. It's misleading.
The sourdough loaf was also past its prime... dry, overly sour, and definitely not fresh. For the price I paid, I expected far better quality. Itâs a real shame, because I had high hopes walking in.
EDIT what a mediocre response, yet I am not surprised, "sourdough isn't for everyone?" Too bad that an honest review out of all the fake ones you have hurts and you respond in this manner. Maybe next time, lower your prices and don't scam people with your very mediocre dry bread made days...

As a vegan focusing on all natural ingredients and as least processed food as possible this place was a god-send. They have vegan and non-vegan items separated respectively. And the taste đ soooo good! I canât explain how soft, flavorful and amazing everything was. I literally took entire trays of bread home. Reheating after being in the refrigerator did not compromise the softness, freshness or taste (even after a week). Marcos is the best. He even followed up with me a week later to see how I liked the bread and if there was anything he could do to improve on the already great service that he provided. Definitely the place to go for great tasting, healthy and amazing bread. Trust me, youâll be able to taste the difference from anything else youâve tried. I 100%...
