Some of the absolute best soup I have ever had the pleasure of having!
Firstly, I'd like to begin by saying we are not from the San Antonio area. We drove 4 hours to get to San Antonio. This noodle shop was a joy to find in the city!
I love Chinese food, but where we live it's never authentic or any good. Anytime we are in any large city we search for authentic cuisine we know we can't get in our small town.
We came here on a Monday afternoon after searching google for authentic Chinese food. I miss living in the city because I know I can get real quality and authentic food by authentic people.
Arriving at the location our temperatures are checked, hand sanitizers are located at the entrance as well as one on each of all the distanced tables. Tables include their chili oil, soy sauce, black vinegar (yum!), a large bin of napkins.
Our order was taken quickly and service was very polite.
We had the beef soup with wide noodles at a medium hot level, the twice cooked pork, and pork and chive dumplings. Everything was delicious!
The beef slices were incredibly flavorful and tender. The broth was heavenly, savoury, salty, meaty. I could taste their spices in the broth and chili oil. I want to say their are hints of spices in the broth that remind me of Vietnamese pho. I've made pho before and I could taste some kind of anise or warming spice. In no way was it overpowering but complimentary. I will definitely be back to try the lamb soup. The noodles were abundant and delightful. I loved the chew. The medium hot was the perfect heat level, enough to cause some sniffling, but not enough to make me stop lol. Bok choy was perfectly cooked.
The twice cooked pork belly was fantastic! I love pork belly and cook it at home often, but this was a real treat. I would recommend this to anyone. Very flavorful and tender with a little bit of heat.
Their dumplings are very good as well and I was so happy to see the condiments for them provided on the table. I want to say the pork was slightly dry, could use more fat, but were juicy when we had them and burst with flavor nonetheless. I would order them again for sure.
All in all, it was so much food!! A very good price and well worth the drive lol I will be recommending to all my friends who live in the area.
I love Chinese folk! I wish they would come to live in my town.
Thank you Lucky...
Read moreFirst off, I wish to start by saying that there is nothing wrong with the quality of the food. I have been here multiple times since 2017 and I have enjoyed every dish I have ordered from this restaurant. If you want to taste authentic Chinese handmade noodles, this is the spot to go. My problem with this restaurant is due to two of the waiters, a young lady and an older lady, chasing after my party of four (with my infant daughter and mother in tow) after we had paid for our meal. We were in the process of getting into our vehicle when they burst out of the door. We all thought we might have forgotten something inside but to our surprise they were chastising us about leaving a tip. And I quote from the younger waitress, “Was something wrong with our food?” Me:”No all of the food was good. Is there something wrong?” Waitress: “You guys didn’t leave a tip.” My mom and I had both placed tips in the tip box after the cashier waitress had walked away while I was signing. Needless to say, we were flabbergasted at the gall to chase someone who had already paid and DEMAND a tip! We didn’t have any special requests during our meal and service was average at best. All that happened was that they refilled our drinks once or twice and brought out our food. Even if there were many special requests asked of the staff they have no obligation to honor them just as there is no obligation for any patron to tip. That was very unprofessional and I wanted to ensure my experience was shared with others who might visit this...
Read moreUpdated review: All the times I previously ate here everything was delicious, but what my family and I got was not so great. Broth had zero flavor. It tasted like straight up boiled water. I've never had to add so much soy sauce and chili oil. That didnt even help any. The beef was not tender and bland. The bowl came with 3 tiny bok choy. This alone was enough for me to decide not to come back here again. Honestly, a pack of ramen has more flavor. The only thing that was enjoyable was the pork and chive dumplings. Other than that, everything sucked. I want to mention that my tea had a weird smell. It smelled like sewer water. We never got any refills. I did notice the ladies who serve you food clean and buss the tables in between serving. The only issue I see is that there is no hand washing happening. So the germs are definitely being spread. After eating and paying for our meal, the waitress cashed us out at the register and made sure to point to make sure we gave her a 20% tip. That is definitely the last time we will be going. I suggest that if you want noodles, go find yourself another spot. This one is a no-go.
Old review: The beef with thin noodles 🍜 was delicious but not as good as the pork and chive dumplings. The flavor was great. The booth we sat in was broken and kept tilting downward. The table felt sticky even though it was clean. Carpet smelled, but overall, as clean as it could be. I would definitely come again and try other things...
