The food was okay. But the real reason for this review was the horrible service. First of all, we weren't greeted when we came in. Tables are all the back to the door. Not a bad thing but just kind of diner-ish. Confusing on where to go or who to talk to for a table as there is no signage. Several tables were empty but not yet cleaned off. It seemed like a "seat yourself" situation so we asked and were taken to the only clean table directly by the door. We could have changed tables sure, but this was for a quick bite and figured we'd just deal with it. Secondly, the waitress arrives and is speaking Spanish, which is no big deal. I don't speak it but maybe she thought we did. We order our drinks, then our food. They were busy and she was all business. Not friendly but not unfriendly. Our food comes and after that, no service at all. No checks for drink refills, no check on how our food was, nothing. We saw our waitress go to other tables to take orders but she never looked our way. Not sure if she was racist, or just intimidatied because we didn't speak Spanish, but it was a noticeable lack of service while other tables were getting service. She helped bus and clean some other tables while we waited. She even had a conversation with a table across from the one she helped clean off, but again, never came back to check on us. We finished and left frustrated to pay at the counter. No "was everything okay?" when checking out either, just a recap of the bill as they rang it up. I gave my card and a tip worthy of the (lack of) service we received. Even that was probably too much. We will not be returning. I would encourage anyone considering to avoid. I'm glad it was just my brother and I, because I would not take my family here to be subjected to such a...
Read moreTo start, the restaurant was warm inside. The waitress did not greet with a smile and did not apologize when we sent our water back because there was noticeable red lipstick lips on the cup she gave us! Gross. We should've left then. But we wanted to give this place a chance. The bathrooms were out of service. All the fountain drinks were out of service. And we were served foggy tap water. We ordered kid cheese enchilada plate for my 5 year old. We were told like most restaurants to be careful that the plate was hot. Ok, so we waited few minutes... then 5 minutes... then we thought it would be good. It was FLAMING HOT. As though it was in the oven. Who gives a child a plate that hot? I asked for a new plate. I was given one as though i was an inconvenience. At this point the plate was STILL HOT, VERY HOT. I myself burned my hand pretty bad. Its sounds like I'm exaggerating, but let me tell you that my husband and I were shocked of this. I had to use a paper towel to hold plate to move food to another plate. The plate was still hot when we gave it back to waitress. As we were waiting for our food, 4 waitresses were standing at the counter eating a gallon of Blue Bunny ice cream out of the carton with spoons! Seriously? This is gross and not sanitary. There was also a huge pile of dirty dishes stacked against the wall behind the bar area where a waitress was cutting up limes. Again, gross. Our waitress NEVER came back to ask how things were or offer us more tap water. The place wasnt even full. Maybe 5 tables at most being used. This place shouldn't have been open for business. And the sad thing is- the food wasn't terrible. But because of our experience with service and condition of place; We will never...
Read moreSo upset. This was one of me and my boyfriend's favorite places and we have always gotten the same thing: the Mar y Tierra burrito with sour cream and the carnitas burrito. We just finished packing up our house and wanted to eat at our favorite restaurant for a last time before moving out of state. First off, after my boyfriend ordered a coke (not knowing the difference between an American coke Mexican coke as we're military and he's from the north), I watched the waitress (glasses, brown hair in a bun with blonder highlights) make a rude comment in Spanish about my boyfriend to her friend. I'm a Spanish speaker and can also read lips, but even then, they didn't make any effort to hide the rolled eyes and rude glares at my boyfriend and I. After being brought a California burrito instead of the carnitas, my boyfriend pulled a three inch black hair out of it. At this point we didn't want to cause a scene and so we just asked for the burrito he ordered. Then, after being told by the same waitress that I was not allowed to have sour cream added to my Mar y Tierra, and after having told her I've ordered it a hundred times and to please add it, I was charged 3 bucks just for the added dollop of sour cream. What...? I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a restaurant. I thought Los Balito's was amazing. Thanks for leaving a bad taste in our mouth, we won't return when...
