When we arrived there was only one other couple dining, and 6 staff members that we could see. Ive never had to wait so long for sushi. I don’t think the employees knew how to make the dishes offered on the menu, as they were jokingly reading the ingredients off of the menu to each other attempting to make an appetizer salad that we had ordered. Because it was so slow, we could hear everything being said inside the restaurant by the staff. It took 30 minutes to get one roll of sushi (all you can eat, it’s gonna be a loooong night at this rate). My empty water glass sat on the edge of the table for half of the meal- our server offered to refill my husbands tea but I didn’t get a refill on my water until I asked him 5 visits later. Many of my sushi pieces were falling apart, as I’m not sure the gentleman putting them together was even familiar with the process? The staff was very into each other, and loudly talking about reselling things they had bought online and who took an uber and buying cars- I guess taking care of the guests just wasn’t a priority this evening. Unfortunately we will not be coming back to this restaurant or any other of their locations. This was not an enjoyable experience, and was definitely not worth my time or money. The food was not plated well, it was bland and un appealing. Our server was quiet and I could barely hear him- not that he said more than a few words the entire night. I hope y’all figure it out for future guests- this could have been so much better, in so many ways.

A friend of mine and I stopped in because we’d been craving some sushi. What a cute little place! The atmosphere was very chill and calming. We began with the Miso Soup (which was Divine), and decided to go with Gyoza as our appetizer. It was definitely a great choice! I loved how crisp they were on the outside. So yummy! I then ordered the Volcano Roll, as well as one of their lunchtime specials - The Chicken Teriyaki Bowl. Both were PHENOMENAL. The Volcano Toll had the perfect amount of spice…& I loved the crawfish and sauce in the middle! The winner of this meal though was the Chicken Teriyaki Bowl. I cannot WAIT to have this dish again! It was some of the most tender, flavorful teriyaki chicken I’ve ever had. And the veggies were cooked PERFECTLY. This was all in a bed of steamed rice, that had mushrooms mixed all through it. Such a delicious surprise! Our waitress wasn’t the friendliest. She seemed to be rushing us, even though there were only two or three other tables with customers at them. We didn’t let her rush us, though. We were there to enjoy our meal, and visit. The waitress was the only negative to this experience! Overall - a great pick…& I cannot wait to go back!🩵

If you like sushi (and I know a lot of people don't), you should definitely give Kumori a chance. It's tucked in tightly within the shops of Alamo Ranch; which makes it a great place to grab a bite if you're out shopping in that area. They have a very diverse menu of sushi, tepenyaki and and poke bowls to choose from. The dining area is dimly lit with a nice, easy listening play list in the background. What surprised me the most was that there was a bar in here as well. It's divided from the main dining area, which is nice. There are not many cozy places to grab a drink in this area outside of the chain restaurants nearby. The bar has some good selections, and there's a TV if you want to watch a game or just meet up with someone to hang out for a while. The food was great! We had three different rolls, and all were delicious. The miso soup is remarkable and you'll probably want more of it. The service was friendly and attentive as well. Definitely don't underestimate Kumori when you're in the area...I'll definitely be coming back.

My fiancé and I came here about a month ago, we loved it. I had a hair and makeup trial for our upcoming wedding and since I was all done up we decided to have a date night and eat out.

We had the pleasure of having Carla as our server this time. We ordered some cocktails, they make some good ones!, and ordered 3 rolls. Carla came to check on us quite a few times. She was very attentive and I could see here being that way with all the tables she was serving. She came over and apologized that the food was taking too long. We told her no problem! It's a Saturday, so we weren't expecting super fast service or anything. After we had finished she came to get our plates and ask how everything was and what we liked the most. We had gotten the rainbow roll, Hawaiian roll, and cosmos roll. The Hawaiian roll was the perfect combination of tangy and sweet. It was different and that's what we liked about it. The cosmos roll was also good because I love octopus.

We ended up telling Carla how the last time we came it was busy, and the food did take a while, but, I told her, to us it's worth the wait because it's good and also because of the service. Even when the service is running behind a little bit, the servers always go to reassure tables.

Good food will bring people to the restaurant. But it's the service that will keep them coming back! We came around 7:30 on a Sunday. It was busy, but the wait was only 15 minutes. We are originally from California, moving to San Antonio I told my fiancé we HAD to find a sushi spot since it’s my favorite. This was the first place we tried here in Texas, and I can’t see us going anywhere else!

The food was so good, displayed beautifully. The decor and ambiance was more than any other sushi place I’ve been to, but without it feeling too fancy ish.

Our waitress Zena was THE BEST. Even with the max capacity she still made sure to check on us every chance she could. I ordered a cocktail, bringing mine and my fiancé’s sake, she told us the bartender wasn’t in today and that she had made the drinks.

I was planning on it tasting too strong or too sweet. It was PERFECT. So we’ll balanced. Towards the end of the night we managed to speak to her a little, telling her what an amazing job she did. These are the kind of employees that make or break a place. Zena made that place.

We WILL...

2025 update: I was giving this place another chance and was once again disappointed.

While the staff is kind and attentive, they're the only good part of the experience.

I tried the katsu curry don, one of my favorite dishes regardless of location. Sad to say not a single word in the name is accurate. While it is japanese fried chicken, there is no "katsu", it was dry, fried chicken nuggets in a bowl of white rice. The curry, while tasty, was hardly anywhere to be seen. A small drizzle on top that hardly colored the rice. There was more curry sauce on the random bits of potato than in the chicken or rice.

The chicken nuggets were pilled on top randomly like me throwing frozen chicken on my macaroni when I've been drinking and cooking dinner at 4am.

Food aside, the atmosphere and layout were fairly poor as well. No dividing walls in the main seating area means you both hear the conversions of everyone around you, and have to keep your head down if you don't wanna be looking at a stranger eating. It was quite loud as well without any dividing curtains or walls, and the flashing half of the sign outside is a good representative of the customer experience within.

Unfortunately, this will be my final visit.

2023-

Dry steak, over-seasoned sushi, and high prices dominated this meal.

Quality has dropped considerably since our last visit and neither of us had much to say besides "it's food I guess".

I got a rainbow roll and some nigiri, she got steak teppanyaki. The roll was mostly fine although lacking the fish variation of the namesake. The biggest problems were the steak and nigiri.

The nigiri was a massive ball of overseasoned rice with a sliver of fish on it. We nearly had to cut the nigiri in half just to eat it.

The steak was over cooked, bland, and tough. My wife didn't finish her meal.

To top off this meal, a 70$ bill for two meals, highlighted by a 6 dollar tea bag and 20 dollars for teppan-yucky steak.

Sadly this is a place we likely...

Been here many times and I’ve even ordered via DoorDash because the service sucks so badly. The staff is rude and owner or manager must be cheap because the first time I came with my partner a piece of the roll fell off my plate as it was being served to me and I was told they cant make me one piece that they have to charge me for an entire new roll!!! I was like okay?? They offered me one piece of sashimi just to get me off their back about it! But when my partner actually liked the roll we asked for another one and they had no issue at all charging me for it lol I chalked it up to them just not wanting to make a full roll for free even though it was not my fault at all. I decided were not coming back here in person its just not even worth the experience of having to deal with the staff. I started placing BOGO orders with DoorDash and picking up myself and picked it up and only had one roll when the order had been discounted for the second roll of the same roll for free. I showed the bartender and asked and she said only says 1 im aware of the BOGO its not on here so buy another one!!! I was like is there someone you can ask a manager? Shes like I am the manager and I was like so you want me to buy two to get one free? She said it only says one? I said I get that but it says BOGO -15.99? She just said order another one and get one free. I was like okay Im out of here reported it to DoorDash w/photos and they refunded me cash! Yup never again this place is incredibly stingy and its a shame because the food is good! The staff and managers and owners need to be retrained. Im not even going to mention the number of times Ive witnessed with others the staff members blatantly intoxicated. To each their own but honor whats right not whatever technical glitch you catch...
