Came on Wednesday only an hour after opening, we bought 5 paletas. I went back in shortly after bc my 5yr olds pop was melting all over the place and needed somewhere to rest it. I asked for a cup, the response “we don’t have any” and I’m thinking ok but you sell mangonada.. I notice they have small paper plates behind the counter, so I say “oook, can I have one of those plates?” Her response came as if it was a bother, she says “no we don’t give those out, they’re for our toppings” sooo then I say “fine, sell me a topping, how much is a topping?” and idk why but she replied full of hesitation dragging her feet like she was unsure of the cost or didn’t want me to buy it (even though it’s on their board which I did not see when I asked). It’s a dollar, I pay, and leave. This isn’t about anything other than the way it was handled. First off $20 was just spent on the paletas.. the reluctance to let me know the price, and then charge for a paper plate (yes obviously I paid for the topping but it was solely to get a plate). Paper plates is something a business averages in their costs as a general operating expense like napkins, plastic spoons, straws. A small plate for a 5yr old child on a hot day to rest their melting paleta was a problem? Being a small business a good attitude is what keeps people coming back, and it’s unfortunate that I had this experience, but I guess there’s always a first time...
Read moreWe were in the area for dinner and walked over to check out Yanaguana Gardens since that was on my bucket list. On the way to Yanaguana Gardens, we saw this shop and had to stop by to see what's going on.
We were pretty full from dinner so this was perfectly light for a dessert. There were many flavors to choose from. You can see which ones were low or had run out likely from their popularity. Very reasonably priced at $3 each. I decided on the guava and pineapple one. It surely was authentic and had real fruit because there were guava seeds in it. I did have to eat it carefully because I didn't want to break a tooth. It's because of the seeds that I took off a star on my review. My husband had the pistachio one and I had a bite. It was good. I think he was expecting it to taste more like the ice cream. I told him that it's a paleta which would be on the lighter side.
Thankful for the outdoor seating to enjoy the paletas before heading over to the garden.
Would be curious to stop back to try...
Read moreGot some paletas from and had tons of fun at the Hemisfair park! If you’re visiting San Antonio, this combo is a must (they’re only 5 minutes walking distance from each other).
The paletas that include cream are very good because it’s a delicious combo of a popsicle and ice cream and I don’t feel guilty eating it! We got the strawberry, strawberries and cream, and fruity pebbles flavor. I’d say the strawberry one is the best of of the three because the strawberries in the strawberries and cream were a tad tough and the fruity pebbles were soggy and hard. The strawberry paleta was smooth and just melts in your mouth, it was a perfect blend of strawberries and cream!
P.S The Hemisfair park is the best park I’ve ever been to, hands down! It’s a modern playground that’s integrated with amazing art and they have a really cool...
