I really enjoyed Tenfold the first time I went during San Antonio culinary week. The prix fixe menu and wine pairing was amazing - portion sizes, flavor, and pricing (under $100). I was excited to bring my sister and her husband and 3 children (2 teenagers and a well-behaved 8-yr-old) and made reservations for 6pm on a Saturday when they were visiting from Chicago. It happened to be the same weekend as final four so I made sure I made the reservation almost a month in advance.
When we arrived in the very busy traffic, we were told that kids weren’t allowed because it was a bar. I was told they’d get the manager but instead a 20-something gentleman was sent to tell us that it “wasn’t a good time because their license doesn’t allow for kids, but if the reservation was earlier they could let them in.” What?!?! They also said it was called Tenfold Rooftop “BAR”… nowhere on the website does it say Bar. Google does not say “bar” and the Opentable reservation did not say “bar”. There was no notification that people under 21 aren’t allowed. My family had been to the Tower of Americas and so I chose this place for a different perspective of the skyline, a cocktail, and an appetizer for the kids before we fed them hot dogs and pizza. (They were excited about the octopus and Wagyu)
Eventually, they said they would let kids sit at the rooftop pool while we had a drink, but the pool area was freezing cold. They were offered blankets. We chugged our drinks that I regretted ordering and got outta there.
Meanwhile, the manager(s) - there were 2 older ladies standing alone chatting at a window near the bar most of the time we were there - did not care to come over and address the situation or explain why there was no indication of a “no children” policy.
There were at least 5 tables open while we were there. Our table had 3 cute stools that would be perfect for children - difficult for an adult to sit on. There is one small bar that seats about 8 - there were no chairs at the bar.
This review is only for the management. Keep doing what you are doing, chef and servers. Too bad your management can’t give customers the same attention you do. Imagine coming from Chicago expecting to go to a rooftop for an appetizer and cocktail during the craziness of final four and being turned away with absolutely NO indication that children are the reason why. The restaurant is called “Tenfold Rooftop”. Consider revising the name, your Opentable reservations, and adding and FAQ to your website for clarity on...
Read moreWhat this place gets right that almost no other place in town gets right, is the customer service. Yes, they are new and there are some kinks to iron out, but I honestly was a bit taken aback by the genuine desire to make the customer experience bar none. I like that a lot and I think it needs to be applauded. These are real people who really care. Special shout out to Alexis and Hailey for taking great care of me earlier this week.
Regarding the ambiance, the view is probably the best in all of San Antonio. The only place that comes close is the Thompson hotel, but that view is obscured a bit while here it's exquisite and unobstructed. They could use some more fans on the hot days, but it's Texas so the heat can't be totally avoided.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the cocktails. There's a wide variety of options to suite all kinds of flavor profiles. Personally, I absolutely love the frozen with tart cherry juice but there's other ones with fun little extras like guava foam. And the bar tenders are more than willing to discuss them and help you decide.
I was also happy with the food. Apparently I love raw meat because I am obsessed with the beef salad that is perfectly paired with crunchy bean sprouts. And the lobster crunchy rice thing was refreshing on a hot day. I'm excited to return for the tasting menu that is very reasonably priced at 65$ for 10 dishes (but you need two people to order it).
Overall, this place is fun for right now and has the potential to be super great once they get into the swing of things. I've been twice already and am looking forward to returning again soon.
*It's advisable to make a reservation in advance. They weren't packed on the weekend but I think it's just the way they need to...

Tenfold Rooftop, perched atop the Kimpton Hotel, might just be the best upscale rooftop lounge downtown San Antonio has to offer. From the moment I walked in, the hosts were warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming—setting the tone for an exceptional evening.
The interior is stunning, like a perfect blend of Long Beach cool and New York sophistication. Think modern elegance with a laid-back vibe. The decor is thoughtfully curated—sleek, stylish, and effortlessly inviting.
The drinks? On another level. The mixologists here are clearly some of the best in town. I went for the Old Fashioned (a true test of any bar’s skill), and it was nothing short of incredible—smooth, balanced, and crafted to perfection.
What really stood out, though, was the service. It’s everything you could want from a high-end lounge: attentive without being overbearing, polished yet friendly. I even had the pleasure of meeting Karen, the Director of Sales and Marketing, in the elevator. She was kind, welcoming, and radiated the same great energy that makes Tenfold feel special.
Although I didn’t get a chance to try the food this time, if it’s anything like the drinks and service, I have no doubt it’s top-notch.
If you’re visiting San Antonio—or even if you live here—Tenfold should be at the top of your list. It’s chill, classy, and effortlessly cool....
