This convention center is not only beautiful, it truly is welcoming and well equipped. I was so incredibly impressed to find a nursing mothers room on the second floor and as well as discover that there is free wifi available in the convention center. Those two items are usually not found anywhere near a convention area and make a huge difference to individuals needing those services!
The conference rooms (I was only on the 2nd floor) had great tech teams making sure everything was going well. The rooms that were subdivided had good sound barriers even when presenters were using microphones. I did not have any presentations where I could hear the adjoining room, which tends to happen in other convention centers.
On the first floor there is a small cafe to grab snacks and drinks. There are also water fountains throughout the building, some with refill stations for water bottles.
The location is fantastic as it is right on the Riverwalk and there are plenty of hotels within walking distance, as well as lots of options for attendees to leave and get lunch within close proximity.
The only area I would say was lacking was placement and quantity of Women's restrooms. The restrooms did not have many stalls for a convention center and were quite a ways away from each other, leading to long lines between sessions.
I would certainly come back to a conference at this facility and also host a conference here. I was...
Read moreThe good: the way the Center is laid out, you don't have to run from end to end (a lot) if you are attending different sessions at a conference. It is relatively pretty, and it is accessible to a lot of downtown hotels; it is a good size for convention of 3-4 thousand people.
Ok but not great: they could have more plugs and charging stations. No charging port at the tables in the ballrooms, which can be a problem for conferences where attendees have to bring their laptops and devices. Almost every conference has an app now to look at schedules, etc., and therefore you have to be on your device during the conference, so you need to charge.
The River level rooms are somewhat far from the main ballrooms.
The bad and the ugly: The manner in which meal and drink arrangements was handled was stingy and verged on disrespectful. Coffee was yanked away, or we were told "it was closed" sharply on the hour at the end of "breakfast" sessions. Break times were often devoid of coffee. Coffee cups were 8 ounces, smaller than I have seen at almost every other conference. You can't make people sit through session after session in a darkened room without coffee. I'm not the only person attending who observed and was disgruntled. The staff also policed the food lines in a similar manner. Staff at the convention did not seem very knowledgeable about where things...
Read moreWas here for the AOA's annual OMED convention in mid-September 2024. The convention hall was better than most. The food was quite good relatively speaking and comparing to other convention halls. (Most convention food is horrible). The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were better than other places I have been for conferences. It sits at the end of the Riverwalk and has three hotels within walking distance. The Grand Hyatt is the closest but it doesn't connect very well to the hall and would be better if there was a direct entrance. Additionally, there are two Marriotts. The Marriott riverwalk is the closer of the two and requires only crossing one street. The second Marriott is the Marriott Rivercenter. This property is a little bit bigger and actually has its own conference center attached. It is also connected to a large mall for shopping. Typically most convention centers are freezing cold and I felt that the temperature was set very well for my liking. I had no issues. Overall it was a decent hall. The area along the riverwalk attracts a lot of tourists and hence it also attracts homeless and some not-so-good riff raff at night. I didn't feel unsafe but definitely recommend that you stay aware of your...
