I rarely write negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my recent experience at Pho Hung Cuong Restaurant so others can make informed decisions. Unfortunately, my visit was deeply disappointing and, frankly, concerning. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was uninviting. The interior was noticeably dark, almost gloomy, which made it hard to enjoy the dining experience. While some restaurants aim for ambiance with low lighting, this felt more like neglect than design. It created a very unappealing first impression. The service added to the discomfort. An older gentleman in a white shirt, who appeared to be either the owner or manager, was noticeably unpleasant (not just with us, but also in how he interacted with another visitor). There was no warmth, no welcome, just a cold and dismissive attitude. What really made the experience unbearable was the noise and sanitation practices. Throughout our entire meal, this same man, along with another male employee, were standing in the middle of the dining area, polishing silverware and tossing it into a clean bin (not in the back, not out of sight, but right in front of us). The clanging and crashing of utensils created a constant loud, jarring noise that made it nearly impossible to enjoy a conversation or even think clearly. The lack of regard for customer comfort was baffling. To make matters worse, the aftermath of the meal was disastrous. Every person in our party became ill after eating here. We experienced what were unmistakably symptoms of food poisoning within hours of dining. Headaches, nausea, stomach issues - everything you'd hope to avoid. This raises serious questions about food safety and hygiene in the kitchen. In sum, this visit was a complete failure in terms of atmosphere, service, and, most importantly, health standards. With all the excellent Vietnamese restaurants available in San Antonio, I strongly urge others to avoid Pho Hung Cuong. Between the unpleasant staff, disruptive environment, and the serious health consequences we experienced, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Rating: 1/5 â Would give...
Read moreHORRIBLE SERVICE!!! We came in at around 8:40 and were under the impression that they closed at 10, as stated on their info on Apple Maps. We walked in and sat down and the waiter asked if we were ready to order and since we had just arrived, we asked for additional time. Another man from the back who was not even our waiter proceeded to yell out âwe close the kitchen in 10â, insinuating that we should order if not we would not be served. We were surprised and ordered fast and they no joke brought the food out in 5 mins. Iâm pretty sure it was not fresh. We start eating and I saw the waiter just hanging around our table staring at us so I asked if they closed at a different time and he was like âyup itâs on the door, 9:15â. We apologized and he was giving excuses about how they needed extra time to sanitize or something, honestly I did not even understand him. At this point, weâre trying to eat as fast as we could and even then, it wasnât fast enough apparently. 10 mins into eating, the waiter came and literally asked âdoes anyone need a boxâ and we felt super pressured. We told him we were still eating and 2 mins later, he comes up again and says âok are you guys ready to goâ. It was 9:30 and at this point, they were basically kicking us out. Everyone from the whole restaurant was just standing waiting for us to leave, it was so bad. I totally get wanting to close and leave at an appropriate time but they shouldâve just told us they would want us to be completely gone and out by 9:15. If that was the case, we wouldâve just taken our service elsewhere. Also, the whole âneeding more time to sanitizeâ was a lie. WE WERE STILL IN THE PARKING LOT GETTING READY TO LEAVE AND THE WAITERS COME OUT STORMING INTO THEIR CAR and took off so fast it was insane. The photo shows how the entire restaurant was shut down before we even left. I donât see how they even washed our dishes or cleaned up after us, it was crazy. Pretty sure the other reviews about being unsanitary are 100% true. I witnessed them lying about cleaning up. Save your time and money, donât come here. Food is pretty...
Read moreI've been eating here for years and always loved it. I haven't been in a while and tried it tonight. It was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. When we walked in the 2 waiters on duty were sitting at a back table, one was sleeping with his head on the table. The other had his back to us and took 5 minutes to acknowledge us. Right after our food arrived I took my son to the restroom. While in the restroom we witnessed 3 baby cockroaches crawling on the wall. When we came out our food was gone. They assumed we left, even though my son's toys and my phone were on the table and I left my purse on the seat. Had to wait another 10min for them to remake our food. Had to ask the waiter to bring us forks, get his attention for drinks, etc. My son got a lemonade refill, and we weren't told they're not free refills. Towards the end of our meal they started spraying some strong cleaner by our table, which aggravated my asthma. I've never smelled something so strong being used in a restaurant around customers eating. We had to leave because of the chemicals. When I went to pay I asked the man if he was the manager and he said he was and that my total would be $33 for a bowl of chicken pho, a kid pho, crab rangoon, and 2 drinks!!! Even after the TERRIBLE experience he had the nerve to try to charge me $7 for my son's lemonade. He actually stood up and got in my face over it and still charged me $30 after all the hassle we went through and being forced to leave because of the chemicals!! I sat in my car and wrote this review. I noticed that they had to open the doors to the restaurant (in 97 degree weather) after we left because the smell was so strong. This has been one of my favorite restaurants for 7 years and it's really sad what had...
