UPDATE:
Since the posting I have received communication from corporate about their policies regarding food allergies and the processes that should be followed. Corporate policies seem to be incredibly clear and safe. I communicated to corporate that what he relayed to me was different to what was told to me at this location. I also stated that different tongs were not used to toss the salad and that is perhaps where the cross contamination occurred. I feel that itās important to follow the same procedures in all locations and by doing so I feel confident that anyone with food allergies will have a safe experience at Salata. We feel confident they will be addressing them with the Huebner location and we are thankful for them reaching out. If you have any food allergies, be clear to state that you have allergies prior to being served. Even though you see your salad being made, this is not a guarantee cross contamination will not occur.
We have loved Salata in the past, however, if you have any food allergies or sensitivities, beware. Serving practices at this location result in a lot of cross contamination. Yesterday was my husband and I's 11th Wedding anniversary. With our littles at my mom's house, we had a day of lunch, shopping, dinner and a movie planned to celebrate. Right after eating lunch at Salata, my husband went into a severe anaphylactic attack and after the epi pen didn't subside the symptoms completely, we had to visit the ER. Needless to say our plans for the rest of the day were cancelled and today my husband is still recovering. Yesterday, I spoke to two local representatives from Salata and voiced my concern about their serving practices and cross contamination. I also simply requested that Salata pay the $100 deductible we incurred at the emergency room. I was told that Salata "wasn't in the business of writing checks because a lot of people try to get something for nothing from them". I was incredibly insulted by this individuals poor choice of words and insensitivity to the situation. We have not spoken to them them since, nor have they reached out to make sure my husband is okay. Food sensitivities and allergies can be life threatening to some. My hope is that they change their serving practices and show more care, sensitivity and concern to their customers with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is the lowest rating I've given. I've been to 3 Salatas in San Antonio and this location finishes last. It wasn't the salad... because a salad is hard to mess up. It was the energy, and environment the employees created, and the lack of pride and ownership taken in the stores presence.
Let me begin with step 2 in the salad making process... veggies. I received the last 5 sliced green olives. I asked the employee, "is there more in the back?" She quickly said, "no, that's it." At 2PM??? As I moved down the line, the young man placing Avocado on my wife's salad, placed the Avocado on her bowl and thew the peel away by banking it off their wall, leaving a nice green splat. Next station was the mixing station led by their shift lead. In my book, the shift lead sets the tone, they motivate their employees and insist on high standards. Not this lead... her smug, lazy almost annoyed attitude infected each of their employees right down to the cashier.
As I began looking around the restaurant, I witnessed dirty tables, guests having to wipe down chairs and tables, poor painting, chipped paint, cabinets falling off hinges and a dirty condiment section. This is all a reflection of poor supervision and leadership. Failed operation.
My 2 stars is solely because the food always hits the spot but the performance and attitudes of the staff should add to the experience. And which they didn't. Salata is a great business with amazing options however, without leadership to make the vision a reality all you have is a dirty closet with good salad.
I feel bad but I must be honest. I hope they turn the ship around and improve the experience. Good luck team! I know you can do it!
Oh... 5 mins later they brought out more sliced olives. So I was lied to.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreStopped in for a quick work lunch. The staff was fast and friendly. There are a TON of toppings for your salad. Plus, you can get it in a wrap, which is another healthy alternative. The food and service was great and the only reason I gave 4 stars is because: I'm not sure if this location is fairly new, but the restaurant decor is bland and boring. I also noticed a lot of paint peeling off the walls near the floors. Some of the cushions had noticeable white stains and were scratched, which may be the type of material. The dining area just seemed very lunch roomy. The staff was great at keeping the tables clean but the whole seating area seemed old and dingy. A fountain machine for customers to use as needed would be a nice addition. The only drinks you can get are like two brands of bottle pop and various self-serve teas. I prefer fountain pop to bottled pop. There is a huge, huge ice machine (ice and water only) and there would be plenty of room to add a pop machine. The food quality was excellent. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The prices are a bit on the expensive side but the food quality matches. The dining area and decor though does not match the price and asthetic Salata is trying to pull off. Hopefully Salata can take some of these opinions into consideration. This place seems to be a hot spot at lunch. I...
