This visit occurred at lunch. It was an online order for take out: using the website was easy and intuitive. There are options to pay with PayPal and with Google Pay.
One factor in the high score given on this review: with inflation going on and the price of meat in particular being sky high these days, "Singapore Chinese & Vietnamese Restaurant" is somehow able to keep prices for its lunch specials attractively low.
The order was ready at the time promised. The order presenter was friendly and attentive.
Sweet & Sour Chicken was ordered, with steamed white rice and an eggroll (included with all lunch orders). Soup is not available for take out orders. The batter on the chicken was lightly crispy. Light meat chicken was used rather than dark meat. The rice was just moist enough - not overly dry, and not mushy. Both items were steaming hot. The portion of food was massive making this an amazing value for the price paid. Some diners could eat half and save some for later and still feel satisfied. The entrée is not served with what is referred to as "garbage:" onions, peppers, and pineapple... but the food was so good tasting, that the garbage was not missed.
The sauce is served on the side in a separate container. It was not remarkable; neither very good nor very bad. The taste was toward the sweet side; but again, not overwhelmingly so. The texture/consistency was a good balance of thin and thick and made for great dipping.
The eggroll had a delightfully thin skin, and consisted mostly of bok choy. The taste was somewhat bland but passable.
One comment made out of curiosity only and by no means positive or negative: the restaurant has "Singapore" in its name and on some of its dishes, but does not offer Chicken Satay - a crazy-delicious chicken skewer that is a Singapore street food mainstay - as an appetizer.
Another visit to check out their broccoli beef and sesame chicken dishes is definitely in the offing. Five stars for the modest, unassuming, but tasty Singapore Chinese &...
Read moreSo my husband's birthday was yesterday. He used to order from this restaurant all the time and bring me some whenever he got out of work at the airport. It was always good and the portions were great! It's been a few years now and he got nostalgic. We decided to go and get some dinner from here for his birthday.
We got there around 8:45pm. The place looked a little messy and there was only one server who was behind the counter taking a phone order. We placed our order and waiting in the corner of the restaurant on 2 little chairs that were presumably for take out orders. We waited 40 mins for 2 plates, a soup and some rangoons. We were trying to open the bag to check the order but we were told everything was in there and the server assured us because she checked herself. We had been patient and saw others come and go but I didn't want to ruin his birthday so I stayed quiet.
We got home and realized they'd not given us rice. My "Walnut Shrimp" was covered in a white sauce that was off putting. It was coated in it and there was pecans, not walnuts. They were not flavored as advertised either. They were seated on a bed of wilted lettuce as well. My husband was okay with his chicken but it was not as good as he remembered and it was lacking without the rice on both plates. These plates were not ala carte either. I tried to call the restaurant and was put on hold for 15 mins and by hold, I mean the phone was put down and I could hear where people were laughing in the background. So 55 minutes of waiting total for this restaurant not including a 40 min ride to and back. So 95 minutes technically. I called the restaurant to talk to them today and all they could tell me was that when I go back next time, they will give me rice. That's it. No other compensation, no apology. We will NEVER go back here and I suggest if you are new and thinking of going here, don't. Save your money and try something else. This is not what it once was and not worth...
Read moreThis has been my favorite Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant since I moved to San Antonio. The egg drop soup is made fresh and so delicious, my boyfriend eats two large! And that's about once/twice a week. I love love love their Pho, also made fresh and the broth is very flavorful. Their crab Rangoon is so tasteful, doesn't matter if you order there, take out or delivery they manage to stay crispy and fresh. We also love to get their lemon chicken, orange chicken, general chow, shrimp with garlic sauce...their white rice is the best as well as their egg rolls. Not to mention the wonderful service the servers and owners provide, they're so friendly and remember you by name. They always make the visit so warming, perfect setting to have dinner at any time of day with your family friends or loved ones on a special date night. Peter and Rosa are awesome at taking care of you and making sure you have everything you need to enjoy your meal. I also love that the cooks will step out just to say hi or thank you. Wonderful environment and hands down 5 star meals! I wish I could have a bowl of egg drop now!!! (It's 1050 pm on a Wednesday night). Somewhat of a whole in the wall, hidden location restaurant that'll make you want to visit at least once a...
