Taco Cabana — Restaurant in San Antonio

I remember in the 80s when Taco Cabana was in its prime. The food was very good and the atmosphere was fun. I remember it was always filled with people sitting together talking and having fun. I think even the employees where enjoying themselves!

It's not like that anymore 😕

I was going to buy some Carne guisada to ship to a friend in Seattle who used to live here. I took a couple of pictures so she could see what it looks like now. Then the Manager said I'm not allowed to take photos of the store. I explained to her why I was taking them but she was being angry with me.

I don't think she really wanted to be there. I don't think she likes her job. Maybe she was embarrassed that it was a little dirty. I don't know.

I did order some tacos and a medium fountain drink. The tacos were ok. Not great or good or bad, just ok.. By San Antonio standards, this place is the same category as taco bell or sonic.

I haven't gone to TC in a long time. There's just so many really good alternatives.

If Taco Cabana was my pet, I would take it to the vet and put it to sleep. It's quality of service just makes me sad 😔

Two stars because I’ve had better experiences at this location. Last night I chose to get 4 barbacoa tacos and when I got back to work, yes, they were made to order… but holy hell they were not good. More like barbacoa-flavored mush. I was so hungry I just ate the first one only remarking that it wasn’t very good. As I got to the second one, my first bite was so regretful that I paused and wondered why I ate the first one. This was not the quality I expected, but being at work until late I didn’t have the ability to complain to the manager (and besides, I hate being THAT customer). I ended up throwing 3 and a half of my 4 tacos in the garbage, and then proceeded to be up all night with what I assume to be mild food poisoning (I’ll spare you the TMI version, but I was up all night running to the bathroom). Went here Sunday for dinner with my family. The food got cold quick. The rice was mushy and the tortillas were dry and hard. Worst of all, there was a group of people vaping inside and we could smell and see it. There was clearly a sign stating no smoking. I tried calling the restaurant so I wouldn't be so obvious that I complained but no one answered. They kept vaping and drinking with no end in sight. We cut our dinner short to get out of there as some of my family members have breathing issues and it's not ok to expose them to that. It was raining hard so we couldn't get up to eat outside mor should we be inconvenienced. Upon leaving I asked if it was ok to vape and the acting manager Valerie said it's ok. I told her no it wasn't and there was a group inside vaping. She didn't say anything at all and this needs to be reported. Second hand vaping not by choice...
