Been here 3 times now and I can say that the food is GOOD! NOT great because I've not once gotten it hot, at best lukewarm. What's up with that?! This last time, the waitress was in SUCH a bad mood, my friend and I thought she wanted to slap us for asking about the salsas that weren't on our table. And we sat in the same place each time so it wasn't that we were in someone else's section. The other thing is that I've BEEN to Jalisco and this cooking is NOT regional. This is Tex-Mex. Potatoes on the plate? In the tacos? Nuh-uh! As my kids used to say. I only saw that at the borders, ALL of them, whenever I would cross them, from Arizona, a California OR Texas! The rest of the food? GREAT. Even the bacon gets cooked with chiles. Just perfect amount of spice. Thing is, if you know your Mexican food, you can ASK for the cook to make your dish accordingly. Didn't know that, didya? I wanted "huevos rancheros" but in TRUE Mexican fashion, which puts the tender, over-easy eggs on top of the fresh corn tortilla, then the hot and spicy tomato 🍅 salsa on top drowning it all. NO cheese, potatoes, raw onions, cilantro or anything else. Refried beans on the side, maybe red rice. Extra tortillas if you work outside for the carbs. The cook added a slice of that spicy bacon to my dish. Mmm! I rarely finish my food but I consistently clean my plate at this place. And that's EVERY time I've come here. Oh, and the FIRST time I ordered "tacos al pastor". I asked them to hold the liquid, whatever THAT was, and to roast the pork ONLY with the seasonings like it was supposed to be. Potatoes on the side for my friend. The cook came through. He did it just right, the waitress can with the lime slices, chopped onions and cilantro. I ate both tacos and felt so gorged I didn't eat dinner though that was lunch at 11am. My recommendation: if you don't mind warm to lukewarm food, this place is THE place to have breakfast ($10 with $3.50 tip included for 2!), or lunch ($14, with $4 tip included for 2!) And breakfast included a bottomless cup of good coffee. NOT gourmet, just good. Nothing but...
Read moreThis is not the first rodeo for this Tex-Mex cowboy diner , but it was the first time to come here. Not sure how I missed it as I understand that it has been open for a number of years. It used to be much smaller, but I believe they took over a Schlotzky's that was next door. Now the place is a large one room expanse of tables with the front entry area comprised of an all glass "wall" Looks rather like a fish bowl as you approach the restaurant from the parking lot and can dimly make out all the diners sitting at the tables inside along the anterior glass wall.
Seat yourself is the name of the game for the main event at this rodeo. It was a bit more than 10 seconds on the clock for us to haul down a waitress and rope in some menus, but not long enough to give us rope burn. Love the trans-border typical menus with colorful photos of the various dishes offered. Although the menu said breakfast ended at 11am, they did not flinch when I ordered migas and a Mexican coke at 11:30 am.
Right out of the chute our plates were piping hot from the kitchen . . .large portion of fluffy migas with tasty fried papas and savory refrieds. The flour tortillas were also some of the best I have had. It gets to the point though, with so many places having good flour tortillas that you almost need to have a side by side taste test in order to determine your top 10. My wife's picadillo plate was also well spiced (not hot, just savory) and a good representation of the dish.
Besides the very good food served here, the prices are get thrown from the bull face first in the dirt cheap. This place is no goat rope, so, next time you saddle up your cayuse and are in the Colonnade area, get your caboose over to this rodeo for some bronco riding good...

They serve classic San Antonio Tex-Mex/ Northern Mexico food. I've been eating here for years and the food has always been delicious. My favorite is the enchiladas verdes de pollo. The menu has a good selection of bistek (steak), chicken, and shrimp dishes. Their daily specials range from Monday's Mole con Pollo or Puerco con Nopales y salsa roja (both highly recommended) Mondays; Chile Relleños on Tues; calabaza con pollo on Wednesdays; Steak Ranchero on Thursdays; fideo soup/fajitas mix on Fridays. Chips and Salsa served when you sit down. The staff is very attentive and kind. Nice smiles from everyone. The owner is a hard working man, and a multi-tasking cyclone. The man is a beast!
--》All meals have some kind of meat in them, although they would probably accomidate vegetarians, the menu is NOT vegan friendly.
Typical aguas frescas are available as well. (Horchata, Jamaica, Tamarindo, Limonada) Clean and good ambiance with large windows allowing for narural light and people watching.
