I have been to all the 54th street locations across San Antonio and this location is my most frequented since opening. I, usually, go back and forth between this location and the one by the RIM, but because of where I live, the I-10 location is usually the winner.
What I enjoy: Atmosphere—the atmosphere is definitely great for a date night or group setting. It’s “cool” ambience is a higher scale dive bar, meets local food and bar eatery.
Bar area—favorite place to sit in the establishment. The table tops are spacious, usually never have to asked to be cleaned, and now with everyone back at 100% capacity, more tables for seating.
TV’s—honestly, 54th undoubtedly has the best viewer experience when it comes to televisions in town. I’ve been to many different bars and hybrids in town, and 54th has the best tv’s—clean, working, and willingness to change to different games at customer request.
What could be better:
Food—I have tried multiple dishes here and across the other locations in SA. I am an avid red-meat lover and salmon girl. With that said, as much as I hate saying, NEITHER of these main staple dishes are worth trying or purchasing. I have tried multiple times, on multiple different occasions, and these dishes are terrible. Salmon is CONSISTENTLY undercooked and for whatever reason, you will never have luck ordering a rare or blue steak. Either the cooks being picked are beginner, or to keep operating costs low, inventory is skimped and ordered cheaply. Trust me, you’re better off ordering a chicken based food or sandwich.
Service—service is constantly a hit or miss, with multiple turn over at all locations. If you are to go now, I would recommend asking for Sterling. He is bomb and has been one of the only servers/bartenders remaining that has stuck around and remains world-class—fast, efficient, professional, and knows the menu.
Pricing—again, for the quality of the food menu, I would recommend eating before and going for an appetizer and drink for the pricing currently offered. On my opinion, very over priced with lacking quality.
Alcohol selection—multiple options available, but also would recommend grabbing a few drinks on your own prior or order the “Long Island ice tea” or the “El Perfecto”. These, hands down, are the best on the menu. In comparison to other selections, most other drinks are also overly priced for poor quality and weakness. For the price you’re paying for “regular” drinks, go with these (about $4-$6) leveled up drinks...
Read moreWe had a party of 15 and had made reservations Thursday evening for Friday night. since there are so many of us we pretty much got the idea that there would be a wait but we didn't expect it to exceed over an hour and a half, waiting outside in the cold. the manager was polite and offered us free appetizers for us waiting so long which was nice! After that is when everything went to crap.Initially our waitress was great , took orders and everything came out relatively quickly. We told the manager that we were all there for our friends birthday celebration and he said he was going to do something special for him towards the end. For one the birthday boys food was cold, when he told the waitress she said "we did the best we could." What does that even mean? I've worked the food industry and it's not that hard to go to the back and reheat the meal. Our friends at the end of the table requested more chips and the waitress told our friends to just come to our side and take those? I would say about 30 minutes into our meal they came and delivered all of our checks and we hadn't even stated that we were done, I figure they thought we would try to dine and dash because about five of the staff and the manager were standing right by the door even though we all paid as soon as we got the check books. I don't know what special something the manager was referring to because he never did anything not that he had to, but it would have been nice considering all that was happening during our meal. We sang him happy birthday and left. we were standing outside trying to take a group picture and the manager stood by the door watching us I don't know what he thought we were doing? overall this is the first time I've ever been to this location and I don't think I would go back. I definitely recommend the location by North Star! And if you're going with a big party prepare to have the...
Read moreUnfortunately one of my grandkids loves some of the dishes there, and my daughter in law orders and I pick up. Today was a special day because my grandson is sick and he wanted to eat a pasta with chicken and broccoli from this restaurant, which I particularly don't like it because i find their food very greasy. I drove 20 minutes to pick up the order up and I open the bag and checked on the label to make sure that it was the correct order., of pasta with Chicken and broccoli and it was, but I made the mistake of not opening the tray to see what was inside. Guess what? They did it again. I brought the tray to my grandson who was in bed and I open the tray and surprise! No Chicken!! So obviously he was not happy about it and he did not eat it. I called the place and spoke to Mckensy and Bryan the managers and told them that their quality control is terrible. They keep making these mistakes over and over again so often that it is incredible. I have to listen to my daughter in law about it very often. If you are sitting at the restaurant and they make that mistake is easy to fix, but when you drive 20 minutes each way, it would be 20 minutes X 4 if you have to go back. They offered a refund when I called if I go there with the credit card. I is not about the money or about the time and the gas. It is about just poor quality control. Poor management. Extremely annoying. I told them that they should pay for the delivery of the item, every time they make this mistake and I am sure they would not do it as often.
One of the managers wanted a feedback. My feed back was that when they make this type of mistake, they should figure a way to deliver the right order at no cost. And it just happens that they make this mistake very commonly. Hopefully, they will improve the...
