We had an interesting experience, but for someone like me who has been to Japan, it is not a place to be praised. The food is mediocre, the prices are in line with the market conditions, my daughter and I chose the all you can eat menu for $30 and my other daughter only got the fix a la carte menu, that's how we ate. You can see pictures of some of our choices. I doubt if I would go here again, not if I don't have to, because as a professional sushi aficionado I found it far from the original. The menu is rich, in fact, we had a bit of a hard time making a choice, I developed a solution like using artificial intelligence and here is Claude's answer to me: “To determine the best value for money, we need to consider both the ingredients and the price. Since all items except "SAMANTHA" are priced at $16.95, we'll focus on those.
The rolls that seem to offer the most ingredients or unique combinations for the price include:
MAGNIFICENT: Includes cream cheese, spicy tuna, crystal shrimp, and multiple sauces, plus a fire-fried jalapeño.
MT. RAINIER: Offers a variety with crystal shrimp, tuna, salmon, albacore, spicy cooked scallops, and more.
RELEASE THE KRAKEN: Features crystal shrimp, tuna, octopus, and spicy cooked scallops.
ROCK & ROLL: Combines cream cheese, shrimp, snow crab, avocado, and various other ingredients and sauces.
VOLCANO: Includes spicy tuna, cream cheese, jalapeño, cucumber tempura, avocado, and multiple sauces.
Among these, ROCK & ROLL and RELEASE THE KRAKEN seem to offer the most diverse ingredients for the price. However, if you prefer specific flavors or ingredients, you might choose differently.
Keep in mind that "value" can be subjective and depend on personal taste preferences. If you have particular likes or dislikes, that could influence which option provides the best value for you...
Read moreUpdate: I had to try this place again since everyone kept saying that Trappers Sushi is awful! Sadly, things have changed and I have to agree. From service not being welcoming to the menu changing for the worse. I have pictures from when this place opened of the Puyallup not being a fried sushi roll. Now that it is, the salmon is overcooked and the avocado comes out brown. Not to mention, the roll itself is extremely dripping in oil. Also, I decided to get the cucumber martini and had to send it back as there were seeds floating in my drink. You really need to pay attention to what you’re serving people.
Previous Review: Went to the soft opening at the beginning of the month with my family. Surprisingly it was not busy and the staff made us feel welcomed. We’re originally from PNW so when we heard about Trappers coming here, we had to try it. Their menu was limited, but we were satisfied with their menu options. We ordered the shishito peppers which was full of flavor and not too much heat. The Trapper bites were delicious, even though they used imitation crab. Of the specialty rolls, we had the Mt. Si, Tukwila, Puyallup. I wasn’t a fan of the Mt. Si because of the apples used in my sushi didn’t pair well with the other ingredients. Hands down, still the best sushi in San Antonio. Their rolls are packed with the perfect amount of rice and we finally found a place that didn’t serve soggy rice. Oh and my husband’s favorite, The Kracken! Don’t forget to order one or two, he said it was mouthwatering delicious! Dessert was over the top spectacular! We got a seasonal dessert (I think Raspberry donut cheesecake) and the fried ice cream. The seasonal dessert reminded me of my childhood haha. The experience was fantastic and went above my expectations. Definitely have to...
Read moreProps to our sushi chefs, Felix, Johnny and Jane, and also Dez who walked all the way over to greet ne while the hostess was busy. You all rock and make the best rolls I've ever had . The vibe at this place is immaculate- super clean environment and outstanding, kind, and patient servers and chefs. Tip then well- they are the best class for sure.
Now for the food: amazing for the value and amazing PERIOD 👏. We went for their happy hour (2:00 PM-6:00 PM EVERYDAY). You get $5 off their All You Can Eat (normally 30 but we paid 25 a person) but you have! to eat at the sushi bar so first come, first serve! If you dont eat at the sushi bar you also miss out on half off bar drinkz (sorry for you), buttttt you can get 3 for $33 long rolls, half off apps.
Anyway our chefs helped us understand that for dinner you can order from BOTH SIDES of the AYCECmenu, not just the side that says "Dinner." That means their delicious apps are included. So worth the price of admission. Even not during happy hour I'd pay 30 dollars!
I ordered the gyozas as my appetizer (10 out of 10 so perfect), some ginger, and for my mains Mr. Charlie and Mt. RAINIER. Both amazing. The first was more sweet, spicy, and fresh with avocado and sweet chili sauce, the second more savory as it had tempura and scallops. Presentation was amazing.
I also got to try my mom's roll- started with a T and had lemon slices- omg I have to get that next time. The citrus and avocado with the tuna ahhh!
Everyone had good ratings. My sister got the kids teriyaki and it was so cute. Came with apple slices, chicken teriyaki, rice and a drink.
My brother got the Vader roll, captain crunch, and monster. There's more too but too much typing. It all tasted...
